survived katrina...

dear all, I just wanted to let you know that I am alive and kicking.
Of course my life is a mess now, but the important thing is that I am ok.
I live right by 17th street canal that flooded new orleans, but I live in the metairie side. No flood, no wind damage, very lucky I was.

I went in metairie and I have tons of pics to upload including the canal. Lots of destruction. When I get a change, I will upoad them here.
Hope everybody else made it out okay.
talk to you soon.
ACM

Howdy ACM,
Glad to hear you are ok. Do you stay or will you have to move?¿

engatwork 09-10-2005 09:16 PM

Did Williams Blvd in Kenner flood? I lived at the end of it in an apt in the early 80's.
Glad you made it ok. Where are you living now?

Williams' end towards the lake (right by the casino) was dry when I passed by 2 days ago. I asked around and people told me that there was some flooding particulary the ones close to the small canal.
I hope your place did not flooded.

Howdy ACM,
Hope you can get things back to normal soon. Good luck!¡

I am not sure of the details but UVA and other Southern colleges are admitting extra students from colleges that were closed. I think it's 200 at UVA.

Well it looks like it was 140 spots at UVA. I think they may be filled but here is a list:

I wish you the best in getting through this. If you need anything let me (us) know. If you need a host for photos I have space/bandwidth.

Reminder.

I was there in late Dec. It was good to see the progress folks had made in the 7 months since we were last there. Some of the big trailer parks are gone. Street and stop signs are going back up. More and more people have gotten back into their houses. Biggest thrill was to see all the Christmas decorations on houses. Proof the people were tougher than what the weather handed them. They were reclaiming their lives and their neighborhood, often with very litle help from their government. I don't think they realize how far they have come. They should be proud.

Good one, Bot. Where'd you find that cartoon?

It wouldn't have been half as bad if the people had actually had the sence to leave before the hurricane got there. They should have known the risks of natural disaster in their area. I feel no remorse for their poor judgment.

You live below sea level, flooding is a big risk. You live on the southern coast, hurricanes are a good possibility. Combine the two and commonsense should tell you to GTFO when a big wall of wind is coming your way.

A friend from Metairie sent it to me.

BobK 02-11-2008 12:56 PM

Problem was, the government was telling them they were safe until it was too late

Tell me what you think of this movie if you see it.

Thanks,

B
