I had to run CAT-5 in my house....DSL modem wouldn't lock up at first....1963 house wiring sucks.........not a lick of trouble since I rant the cat-5 from the phone box outside.

I called Verizon and they told me the house was about 3,000 ft. from the base station, and that download speeds in my area were averaging about 1.5 Mbps, which is what I'm getting now with cable, so I rolled the diced and signed up.

They'll have it ramped up on the 11th, so I'll report back then.

I'm not so sure.........at 3,000 feet the DSL ought to work pretty well. It will probably do 1,500K on downloads at that distance.

I take it that you're in the LB/OC area? Verizon has a monopoly down there and I set up a DSL installation in Long Beach and the performance was good without any outages despite the 50 year old wiring. I think 3k feet from the station should be just fine.

I currently live in Diamond Bar, which is on the border with Orange County, and the home I am buying is next door in Phillips Ranch.

You guys won't believe what I had to pay for the house.

If I regularly get 1.5 Mbps, I'll stay with the DSL. If not, then I'll quickly switch to Comcast.

Stick with the DSL. Comcast is the debbil
