I am trying to find the best and most affordable way to ship a package to me in Europe from back home in the US. It contains a car radio and flat LCD computer screen. I am guessing 15 pounds in weight? I checked with UPS/Fedex and I am getting a quote of $600 to ship. For that price I might as well buy airplane tickets to and from Columbus, Ohio. Anyone know of a better way to ship or what options I might have? thanks in advance.

nope....I keep a few friends in the Military to utilise the APO when possible...but thats not an option for most. If it family how far are they from the airport and would the airline allow for a shipment delivered to them in the USA and picked up by you in Europe? No idea if this is possible but I know you can do it with Greyhound that way.

I shipped a heavy steel bike rack to England for my motorhome, when I had it over there. Post Office was cheapest. About $60 as I recall.

As long as you stay within the USPS overall package size guidelines, they are still the most cost effective way to ship.

Minimum length and width: 5-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches
Maximum length: 42 inches
Maximum length + girth combined: 79 inches


$65 for the package you described via Airmail or $43 by "surface" to the UK.

Thanks guys... I didn't check with USPS because I thought they would cost more with larger items. Turns out they are by far the cheapest... I got a quote of $51 for Air parcel post (4-10 days). Note to anyone else... do NOT ship economy. You might as well toss whatever you are shipping into the trash.

don't get me started with DHL....they lost an entire Pallet of parts I bought and then refused to pay the full value I paid for them....

Yep I've heard they are only good for one big box. I had them ship a Supersprint muffler over from UK and it was fine. I think the UK has a very extensive netwrok of dhl offices thats probably why. They are now merged with Airborne Express which wasn't exactly a great company too

I mean how do you lose a 48" square pallet full of parts....

they couldn't get it to VA from Oklahoma ....hell according to them they lost it in indiana....

And you think I would trust them to get something overseas without crushing or losing it?

Before someone mentioned DHL.... I tried them, too. I got a quote of $380.01 to ship. Seriously... I might as well buy a new car CD deck for that price

A little better than the 600 you got before Not as good as USPS but...

yeah there are snibb. not sure about comumbus or OH for that matter but in Chicago, in the polish neighborhoods, they have shipping companies that charge a fraction of USPS. it takes a while for your stuff to get there but $20 can't be beat.. X-mas time is almost here too so it may actually take faster.
