Untimely funeral and spooky coincidence

Had to attend a police funeral today in my official capacity. The funeral was for one of the local officers who worked for the city PD in the town my station is in. There was a huge turnout from agencies all over Michigan as well as our brothers from across the river. The officer, 33 years old, lost a brief battle with terminal brain cancer.

Now for the spooky part, as told during his eulogy:

About three years ago one of the women who works at the local filling station where most of us grab a cup of coffee had a daughter with stage 4 brain cancer. The daughter was 6 at the time. As the family relayed the story, this officer one day 3 years ago asked the woman how the daughter was doing, she responded that the cancer had progresed to stage 4 and things didn't look good. He told the woman that if it was possible he would trade places with her daughter so she could live a full life. This week he lost his battle and the woman's daughter is now 9 years old and doing fine.

Does make one wonder.

That's, really, well.

Funerals are no fun. I've had my share of them this year.

Sorry for your loss Mike. Take care.

That is coincidentally spooky. Things like that always make you pause and think.

I like that LE shows-up for brother's or sister's funerals. In addition to a public display of respect, it builds cohesion, the one weapon that LE has that crooks don't have. Unfortunately, terrorists have it, too. And that's what makes them so much more dangerous than common crooks and murderers.

Thanks for your service.
