240D, a gift to son?
Instead of selling my 240D, I'm thinking of giving it to my kid when he turns 17 in April.
The car is safe, reliable, looks great and runs great. The biggest benefit I can see is that he can't drive fast or drag race like he would proabably like to, I know he's got a lead foot? Anyone think that it's too old of a car? Or should he just be happy as hell? Shoot, my first car was a 200.00 rusted out 68 Tempest so I would haev loved it.

Well, that's half true, he sold me his old Torino cheap so I ended up with that, 4bbl Cleveland, 4 speed 72 Gran Torino Sport fastback. Cool car, I miss it still. He bought another one with a 429 and a automatic. If you guys don't know where my hot rod soul came from, now you do. PS, My 4 speed Cleveland was faster, take that old man, lol.

if he doesnt like it he can walk until he has saved enough money to buy the car of his choice with his money.
perfect choice for a first car.

1977 240D Power blue with tobaco MB-Tex inside. That was my first car back in 1986 or so. Had it till 1991 when it got stolen and striped. I loved that car. Dad gave it to me when he upgraded to a 500SE Euro. I would still have that car had it not been stolen. Something about the smell of the diesel, the racked of that old 4 banger that just makes me yearn for the good old days.

I'll start to hook it up a little for him. New steo\cd player and clean it up nice.
And teach him to always, always keep some veggie oil in the trunk, just in case....

And make sure you beat into his thick teenaged skull no cell phone calls while driving......adults with 30+ years driving experience are incapible of doing both...no teenage new driver can balance that either. You need all of your attention to go to driving and the numbnutz next to you who are yacking on their phones and blind to the world to keep yourself safe.

How about an old 220D from the 70's. Doesn't get much simpler, cheaper, safer, durable, then those cars. What I mean is that it's a great blend of all those. Oviously a 50's beetle is simpler.
