Hecho En Mexico

WASHINGTON (AP) — The labels inside the U.S. Border Patrol uniforms have been making many federal agents feel uneasy.

It’s not the fit or feel of the olive-green shirts and pants, but what their labels read: “Made in Mexico.”

“It’s embarrassing to be protecting the U.S.-Mexico border and be wearing a uniform made in Mexico,” says T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a 6,500-member union.

Agents and lawmakers are concerned about the consequences if the uniforms for agents charged with combating illegal immigration fall into the hands of criminals or terrorists.

“If we’re manufacturing uniforms in Mexico, what’s to stop someone from walking across the border in a Border Patrol uniform?” asked Rep. John Carter, R-Texas. “How do you know who are our guys and who are their guys?”

For more than a year, the shirts and pants worn by agents and inspectors with U.S. Customs and Border Protection have been made in Mexico. The uniforms are supplied by VF Solutions of Nashville, Tenn., which subcontracts its work to plants in the United States, Mexico, Canada and the Dominican Republican.
...
House members are expected to consider new immigration and border security measures after the Thanksgiving congressional break. Carter and Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz., say they plan to press a measure that would require the uniforms be made in the United States.

Renzi said he wants Republican House leaders to include the requirement as part of an immigration enforcement measure expected to be introduced in early December.

I believe a certain VP, named Al Gore, was part owner in R&R Uniforms, which eventually became VF Solutions. R&R and VF Solutions are based in...uhm...Tennessee!

I also know that in the mid-80's, when Chrysler farmed out the RamCharger plant to Mexico the BP stopped buying Rammers...something about conflict of interest. Hard to believe that nowadays supplying uniforms to the BP that are made in Mexico is OK. Still seems like a conflict of interest to me, plus a hell of a security risk...even though VF Solutions claims they conduct "spot security checks" on the fabricas.

Until they get genuine Made in USA uniforms why don't they just cut out the Hecho tags and put their own unique mark in them? Duh.

How can they get made in the USA uniforms when the Dems started the ball rolling on "outsourcing" everything to third world countries.

Good point Bone. Now it's time to start insourcing our lost industry and this looks like a good place to start. I'm tired of shirts made in Bangladesh. It's all I can find in our local stores. The same goes for our American Flags. Most of them are made in china. It's sad when we can't even have our Flag made in USA.

I don't see the problem. So what if you are guarding the border with a mexican shirt? Are you saying the border patrol on the north cannot have a canadian made something or other?

I could care less if they posted snipers there with mexican made bullets.

I prefer mine made in my basement. I reload for my 40 S&W and 454 Casull. But it would be ironic if we did shoot the people crossing the border illegally with mexican made bullets and selling them US made coffins.

For now, deer. Next year if Dad and I get drawn by the DNR, Black Bear. Also have used it for Black Russian Boars. I sold my MK I Desert Eagle 44 mag which was quite useful. I have a 10 in barrel for game and it has a 2.5 - 8 power scope and a 6 in barrel for home defense. Now I use the 454 for hunting and a 357 Mag for home defense. The wife has a 40 S&W that I alsp play with. Both have Crimson Trace Laser sights for easy target acquisition. A Ruger Mk II for playing and practice when I don't want to shoot 454.

I thought as much. I have one too. It's my second. The first got traded to a bro-in-law for something else I coveted more.
