Wood Plank (or bead board) Ceiling Questions.
I'm seriously considering doing a couple of rooms in a nice wood ceiling, something like a tongue and groove bead board or something. I want real wood, and the longest pieces I can find (so no or few seams).
I've googled myself into a frenzy and found very little. Am I correct in thinking that I'll need to go to a lumber yard since I want long lengths of quality lumber or has anyone gotten where I'm trying to get from the Lowes/Home Depot scene? Any info that anyone can give on these ceilings would be great! Thanks, Pete |

I just got off the phone with a friend who had an idea. Lumber Liquidators (It's a wood floor place)...
He's thinking unfinished wood flooring... The only part I'm not crazy over is the fact that they aren't as long as I would like. Let's hope some other forum members have some ideas. Pete |

How long of lengths are you hoping to find? 8 foot pieces would probably be the longest you'll be able to find unless you get someone to custom cut/mill them for you and that would probably be quite pricey.

I've bought a lot of flooring from Lumber Liquidators. I don't remember any beaded flooring. I've also bought 3/4 bead board to redo an old bath in my house. It was quite expensive. I redid other rooms with the thinner (1/4) beadboard available at the big outlets. I think you'll be very hard pressed to find long lengths of lumber anymore.
In my 1890's house, I have a solid oak floor with many boards 20'+ in length. I'd think about oak plywood and a panel feel to the ceiling. Out neighbors did it that way, and it turned out well.

Hmmmmmm...
I found these pics of car siding...
http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/exterior/siding/remodel/wood/tg_pine/custom.htm Hmmm... I'm wondering if there are different types, but for the purpose of length, I think you may be on to something, Flor? What do you think? |
