I hate it when car sellers.....

I hate it when a person selling a car just stands there smoking a cigarette; silently staring & watching every move you make just hoping you don't find out what is wrong with the car; Not volunteering any info.... Questions are answered with a lie even if the truth would serve them better..

Or sellers that won't shut up even for a second.

Won't let you drive the car or even take you for a drive.

You ask "how much are you asking for this project car" and they come back with the word "Five"......Five what? Five Dollars, five hundred, five thousand, five virgins, five sea shells? .... The heap is so overpriced They can't even bring their mouth to form the word... "thou-sand".

They tell you there is no rust; while you have your whole hand in a rust hole.
"Never been wrecked... to my knowledge"; while you're staring at wave body panels, cracking bondo & overspray.

"I don't have the title; but a title is easy to get"

"It ran really good when it was parked 10 years ago; It just needs a battery"

"This car is a rare classic; they don't make Cordobas anymore."

"This Omni was the best car ever made"

"A Mercedes/Volvo/BMW/Trabant goes a million miles and is still not broken in"

"My wifes car" (meaning a little ol' delicate female can't hurt a car)

Oh heck; I could go on all day; you all have a day!

...or when they have COMPLETELY different definitions of the following words (when you're calling about the car vs. when you see it in person) from the rest of the universe:

-Well maintained (4 oil changes year don't count...)
-No rust (a little rust isn't the same as NO rust)
-No accidents (fender benders ARE accidents!)
-Never winter driven (why does it have snow tires on it???)
-100% original (seat covers covering cracks, pimped out stereo, 5 star chrome rims, etc..)
-A couple of others have looked at the car already & are interested (when pressed for details, the ad has only been in the paper for 2 days and they can't "remember" who else has been to see it even though the crowd just left before I got there!)
-I'm not a dealer.. this is my car (where did you get the dealer plates on the car? Why are they attached with rusty screws that have been there for 2 years??)
-40,000km (on the engine. That's what the wrecking yard told me when I bought the "like new" engine. 340,000km on the rest of the car. Engine looks & runs worse than similar cars with 340,000km)

I've seen it all.

My favourite was the guy who was trying to sell me an '83 Thunderbird years ago. He said "no rust". There was 2" body moulding all the way around these cars. Supplemented by 2" of plastic tape he had attached right below the moulding. And the tape was all bumpy because of the rust below it.

Like I wasn't going to notice a 4-5" body side moulding!

That's why they make them new too!

Remember, that we all have different opinions on what nice and perfect are.

My idea of perfect will be different than yours and vice versa.

I try to be as honest as I can be, most of the time it works.

Not everyone out there is trying to screw you, but be careful nonetheless.

Wednesday: "Don't worry what the carfax says. It's not reliable. I know this guy who just got burned by carfax."

Friday: "Comes with a carfax guarantee. You can't go wrong with carfax."

OK it needs to be said...

Since nobody has jumped on this one yet (no pun intended...)

Did you end up getting a Boxster or a Hummer?

When I was selling cars up in Jersey almost 20 years ago, there was this one hottie who knew how to work everything and everyone. Buyers, managers, car detailers, had 'em wrapped around her finger.

And it smelled like cologne! No one left it alone though.
