Unhappy OUCH! Anyone ever tear a rotator cuff?

Old BBall injury is acting up....I used to be a pretty OK shot blocker in the Sunday AM hoops games, but now old injuries are coming back...
Anyone have experience with living with torn rotator cuffs? Not the worst thing, but a RPITA....

I blew out my right cuff while hitting strong side in a V-ball match for a club championship. The set was tight, wide and heading for the block. I had a tough line shot that, more likely than not, would have been jammed back in my face, so at the last moment I turned to hit angle. My wrist broke over the ball at the same instant that the inside blocker reached the over-set and 'POP'! we contacted the ball simultaneously.

My cuff was blown out for weeks.

The worst V-ball injury I ever experienced was from arriving late for the block and having my wrists turned in toward the hitter. This left my thumbs exposed to a once-in-a-lifetime, righteous jamming.

At the time, I only owned Levis 501 button fly jeans and a few pair of elastic waist shorts......ever try unbuttoning 501's with badder urgency without opposable digits?

I tore my rotator cuff, labrum, bicep and upper trapezius all at once in a coil over related accident. Some of the most excruciating pain I've know. I had to have a reconstruction. Therapy was quite tough (9 months of it!!), but it's probably at 90% of what it was pre-accident (a little loss in overall mobility). If it's bugging you, get to some one in sports medicine. Most of these injuries can be scoped, so your recovery time is almost nil. You will feel so much better in the long run. Technology being what it is in these matters, there's no reason to live with daily pain from that sort of injury.

I tore mine 5 years ago.(a 50% tear)..well, cut is a more accurate term...had a bone spur that did it...they removed the spur and suitured the tendon orthroscopicly...if you have a teat get it taken care of ASAP...becasue a partial tear can usually be taken car or orthroscopicly and you are talking 3 days rest and starting physical therapy inside of 14 days.....it it detaches they have to open the shoulder and you are talking 3 weeks bedrest and much...much longer recovery. I am sure your doctor already told you this however.

I tore the glenoid labrum off the scapula, same area but deeper. The tear also caused chafing of the bicep tendon where it passes over the edge of the scapula. Had surgery 13 months ago today. While rehab wasn't exactly a cake walk it was way better than the 6 weeks of immobilization.

Basically a full recovery but a slight decrease in my range. I can't reach quite as high or bring my hand up while behind my back. Which reminds me, I have to make an appointment to visit my surgeon as the Gov't has denied my structured settlement claim. I'll appeal their decision, but have to have the Doc take another look at my range of motion.

I've never had any experience with serious medical injuries thus far (knock on wood) but this happened to my dad last year. He's 60, by the way. Two summers ago he was backing his truck up to a 28ish foot travel trailer and stopped about three inches too short. He was already in a bad mood so instead of getting back in and backing up the rest of the way, he decided to just pick the thing up and hoss it on there. He said it only hurt slightly at the time but about a year later he had to have surgery. AFAIK its not bothering him anymore.
