Noble Professions

Which profession do you think is the noblist of them all? Please also consider what it may take by way of preparation to be in one of these professions, i.e training, skills, studies, etc.
Thanks!

Teacher.

I'll agree with the above. Taking pride in making a difference in people's lives for not much monetary compensation is about as noble as it gets.

I also have a soft spot in my heart for nurses. I've had three major surgeries in my life. All I remember is that the doctor, as good as he is, gets in, gets out, then sends the bill. Yes, I understand that much of that is due to demand on his time.

The nurse is the one that makes a difference in your day.

The Doctor

The Doctor
He spends almost half of his life just to learn the science. This first half of his life is spent studying while everyone else is partying in schools and colleges. A doctor puts EVERYTHING on hold until he is at least 35 years old and then he starts to do the "normal" things, like dating, buying a house, having kids, etc. These days there is actually no monetary incentive to become a physician as doctors are basically starving due to high insurance costs and almost NIL reimbursements from the health insurance companies. This generation of doctors are truly SACRIFICING half of their lives to learn the art and science of healing and alleviating pain. The average salary of a doctor these days is ONLY $120,000/year which is nothing!!! Yes there are many who make much more and many who make even less than this. At a $120K your take home is about $7,000/month. All this is AFTER one has sacrificed no less than half of his life.
How do I know this? I just finished medical school and currently studying for the boards so that I will be able to train in a residency program which will pay me $3,000/month for working 100 hours/week before taxes. I will do this for 3 years and then specialize in Cardiology for 5 more years earning roughly $4,000/month BEFORE taxes. I am 34 years old and will be 44 when I can afford to put a down payment on a house.
BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? All this is just fine with me as I knew that it would be hard going into it. To me all is worth it when I become a vessel thru which God will do his work healing people. It is a satisfying feeling to know that you have saved someone's life and THAT person will NEVER forget your face and you will ALWAYS remain in the patients prayers and in his family's prayers. HOW POWERFUL AND NOBEL IS THAT?
On a lighter note.............
People say that the president of the United States is the most powerful man in the world. I say it is not so, rather the doctor is even more powerful. Even George Bush drops his pants and bends over and asks A DOCTOR to put his finger up his ass and check whats wrong. :D
A man will trust a doctor to be alone with his wife and daughter. How NOBLE is that? :)

Noble. Hmm. Where does doctor or nurse come from?

A teacher. No wealth. No glory. No power. Die in obscurity with nothing to show for having lived. Nobody gives a damn about them as individuals.

But we'd be huddled around in the dark hoping the predators wouldn't take us if we had no teachers.

Teachers don't have it bad and many do find wealth, glory and too many strive for power.

In proportion nurses are especially given the shaft, in many cases they have more responsibility than the doctor but with an average income of $50 which is in line with teachers they get screwed but do it anyway.

I'm from the no sympathy for teachers gang, I do respect the exceptional ones but as a whole they deserve the spit wads and paper airplanes.

Ditto. Too many bad memories still haunt me even after 30 years. I still have a score to settle with two of them.
