I need a good pocket knife.

OK I need a pocket knife that:
Has about a 3in blade and folds nicely.
Has a serated(sp?) secton on the blade so I can make short work of line.
Is very rust resistent, this knife will be near or in salt water just about every day during the summer.


So far Boker is looking good, I was able to rust my Leatherman tool even with lots of WD-40 being sprayed on it.

I'd be willing to give up a serated blade if I can dunk it in salt water all the time. I have a set of Orvis ceramic snips that don't mind the salt.
I really need a nice light high quality pocket knife!

Not sure how good they are in salt water but I'm real happy with my Swiss Army (Victorinox) explorer model. It has a magnifying glass, small but high quality, that comes in handy all the time. The phillips screw driver is well designed and the tweezers are always useful. With the mag. lens and tweezers, slivers are short work. They have bigger models w/ the mag. glass that have serrated blades, I think.

I have a Buck Taclite. It looks cool, with a wood handle. Has a pocket clip. The tip is very pointy, great for digging out slivers. It's pretty cheap. I carry mine all the time, and use it a lot. Its a great knife. Now you have my 2 cents

Oops I didn't read the salt water part. This knife probably won't work for that, but it's a good knife anyway.

That is a nice Buck knife, however I would be lucky to get a summer out of it! Thats the problem I have with knives even stainless ones rust on me.

I had the multi tools like the Leatherman Wave, and a few Swiss army knives. They are nice but I just want a knife with a blade, something simple.

Try a freshwater wash and rinse. I use all kinds of tools in brackish and saltmarshes and as long as you wash and rinse them off they don't rust. Consistency is important. Forget one time and you get rust that's a ***** to get rid of.

This may be heresy but I have been very happy with cheap chinese knives. About ten years ago when folding river knives came out, they were running around $60. The chinese knockoff's were $7. I bought a couple of the chinese ones and have been happy with them. Hell, for $7, one summer's use is no problem. Granted I haven't had to cut my way out of my boat yet, so the knives have not been tested to the extreme, but for everything else they've worked fine.
I was in Chinatown in SF a few weeks ago and most the stores had gazillions of different versions of their inexpensive knives. My wife picked up another one for me for Xmas for about $5.
I have a pair of folding chinese scissors that I bought in 1979 for $1.50. They still work fine.

Have you looked at Myerchin rigging knives?

I don't have any personal experience with them, but they seem to be aimed at marine users. If you have questions about suitability for your application, give them a call and ask.

I think West Marine carries these.

I found that Boker I like on ebay for $150+$6 shipping. I don't have the money right now so I'll have to think about it but I really like that knife!

Botnst you are correct, however I sometimes forget. I found a really cool set of plastic pliar's! I am going all composit in my saltwater box!

This is all you need. My summer job sees me working and unloading fishing boats all the time, as well as working with wet produce. This knife sits in salt water overnight sometimes, and still hasn't gotten rusty. Also, takes a hell of an edge and the curved blade is great for separating ropes and slicing boxes. Plus its cheap. I reccomend this:
