Audiophile Question

I recently got a Plasma Monitor. It hangs over a couch. All of my stereo components, cable box, ect. are all in a corner. Can I prop my center channel speaker up on a dais where it will be level with the top of the back of the couch and have it fire upwards? I know that would denegrate some of the purpose of the speaker, but what are any experts thoughts? The only other option would be to hang the speaker on a bracket below the monitor, and I can't do that in this room. Thanks.

I'd rather do without the center than having it fire straight up. You'll get some weird imaging with that setup.

OK. I can live without it. Truthfully, I never could tell much difference using it anyway. On my old 36" regular tv, I just left the built in speakers on and ditched the center channel speaker--to me movies sounded better like that. The system has eight satellite speakers and 2 subs and the front four satellites handle voices really well so I may just ditch it again. Anyone else?

If you lose the center without the proper setting on the receiver you will be frustrated to say the least. 90% of the voice sound comes from the center channel. Many audiophiles will say that the two most important speakers in a normal AV system is the sub woffer and center speaker.

Get a speaker stnad (the one that is just a pole and a mount on the top. You can put it behind the couch and have the speaker fire out from behind the couch.

I''ll back up what these guys said....speaker position is important to get what you paid for from the system....shortcuts will leave you with something that sounds worse than a $250 everything-in-a-box setup.
