Ipod users...

The wife gets me an IPOD nano(500songs) as a gift and I am befuddled.

I got it set up and it is currently charging.

I am correct assuming that you can only down load music from Itunes?

I have tried to down load music I ahve in my system that I giot from bearshare and am having a "bear" of a time.

Any ideas?

Thanks

song format...

Plantman,

I'm a pod newbie as well, I'm learning to support my daughters tune needs. Ipods support differ song formats, AAS or whatever they consider as apple standard format. They (ipods) can support MP3 format with setup parameters, or other formats as well.

Make sure you have the current download of itunes program from www.itunes.com (the apple site). With Itunes you can download and I believe convert other song formats. You can also load in your CD's into the ipod library.

There are some tricks to get multiple ipods to share the same library as well. I think there are some online forums at www.itunes.com, but not as helpful as here 8).

Cough cough limewire cough cough

You can uses music from other sources as above, but you can ONLY use videos from itunes on it. There are some programs out there that will convert DVDs and such, but they are too buggy at this moment.

If you do choose to persue downloading music from various sources, make sure you use a filtering program to make sure that the music you are getting doesn't come from a government server. Use something like peerguardian to help with it.

However, Please Support The Musicians, BUY MUSIC! (especially from tower records.)

justinwrock-Why Tower Records? Why not go to the musician's/band's website and buy it directly from them?

You can use music from any source as long as it's not Microsoft or Real. You can also rip all of your current cd's for use on the iPod which is quite simple. Don't use bearshare, if you're going to go the P2P route use Limewire. Another interesting way to get music is to record it off of internet radio with something like stationripper. (oddly enough still legal thanks to a loophole in recording law from the 70's) Nonetheless for best quality get stuff from CD's or Apple music store.

Welcome to the world of Apple. You can't ever go back.

Not true about the video content if you're using a mac. I've Tivo'd music videos and put them on my iPod no problem. Just has to be the correct format.

Can u access the music via bearshare??

If you can, just select it all and drag it into the Itunes library. That is probibally the easiest and fastest way that I know of.

Also, I like Tower, because they are local, and they arent doing so well anymore, so they need all the support they can get.

I use PSP Ware to convert to the correct file format. I don't know why it wouldn't work on a Windows machine. Just takes a little tweaking. There are lots of forums on how to do this.

Thanks! Problem solved. All you gota do is drag the muic you want from the folder and place it in Itunes library and it's done.

On another note regarding "stealing", it seems to me that if Apple wanted you to only buy their music, they wouldn't make it so easy to use other methods.

Just a thought.
