Anybody use Geek Squad for computer help?

I am having trouble with my outlook. I searched geek squad and they say I must back up all my files and they will not be responsible if they make things disappear. If I knew how to do that I would not need the geek squad.

Is anybody using them?

The girl I got on the phone had a heavy accent (Indian?) and I had trouble understanding her.

I find that method, with liberal and creative use of Google search(es) usually works well, no matter the problem.

If you have to, go to yelp.com and look for a highly rated mom and pop shop. Geek Squad's a terrible service.

I'm good with computers. What specific problem are you having? Also what version of Outlook (office 2011, 365,etc) are you using?

Generally, reinstalling Outlook's components from the installer will fix everything.

Giving Geek Squad access to your computer is akin to having McQuick Muffler align your Mercedes. It may be cheap but your car won't be aligned. Just send me a check. I won't fix it either but at least you'll not spend all your cash.

I can see that I am receiving emails because there is a box that pops up and names the sender. But then they don't actually appear in my mailbox. Some do but not nearly all that I know I am getting because I can access them at home on my computer there.

Also it won't hardly ever open a link for me.

IMO, using Geek Squad is like paying an MB dealer $120 an hour for service. Of course, I'm spoiled. I have access (frequent) to a senior Sprint programmer who feels guilty about charging me $35 an hour and never fails to do it right.

Not that it would concern you, but just remember if you use Geek Squad, they have ties to the FBI.

So far, it just seems to be for cases of child porn stored on a computer. And, that is a good thing, though I'm wondering how admissible it is. But things creep. What if they found raw data regarding income taxes, errant communications, etc.? I wouldn't use them for the potential loss of privacy of my general files.

(1) Unless you're using M$ Exchange email (or outlook.com) on the back end, run Thunderbird or use web mail.
(2) Yeah, Geek Squad is essentially a government kurva. Wonder what kind of spyware they install.

Tom - I live fairly close to GA Tech and there are a number of mom & pop computer places just outside the campus. Their employees are generally GA
Tech students and they do really good work. If you have such a place near you might look for a similar outfit for computer problems.

Simple approach guy myself. Just clean it out and reformat. Would that not cure his ills?

So many young kids have aquired more than enough skills to handle it. It seems that in the lifespan of my computors. I land up needing this done once or twice as general maintenance.

For example my computer seems to want to double space recently. Plus I know someone got through the firewall not too long ago so nothing of a financial nature is dealt with on this computer.
