Is this a good car? 1974 280C

I just saw a listing for the above mentioned car, that has been restored for $2500. I have not seen the car, but it sounds like it is pristine. I'm looking for someting that I can buy, and maybe turn around in a year or two and sell and maybe make money. Are there things to watch out for on these cars? Is this a worth while investment? Thanks, Nick

'Restored' for $2500 could mean lots of rust, bondo and a repaint! Better have a good look before you spend your money. The W114 Coupes are worth more than the sedans and they're starting to appreciate but I don't think they're a solid investment yet. The twin-cam sixes in these cars can suffer from worn cams, usually signaled by rattly noises when running and the '74 may have the dreaded 'thermal reactor' bolted to the engine in place of a normal exhaust manifold. An early alternative to the catalytic converter, the reactor allowed running leaded gas, but hindered performance and gas mileage, and in some cases, caused heat damage to the cylinder heads. Many also dislike the Solex 4V carb used on these engines as well as the Federally mandated 5-MPH 'battering-ram' bumpers used on the 74 and later cars.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks for the advice. I think that I will stay away from this car. I think that I will continue to look for an SEC, as it gives a unique body design, along with modern technology, to some extent. I like old cars, but I don't want to make a moderate invesment.
