MB 300, 420, 500 and 560 verses, BMW 635 CSI, and Lexus, 300 and 400
I'm thinking about one of the above mentioned cars to replace the 1983 Volvo 244 turbo that I just sold. I have not had the luxuy of even seeing a SEC in my area, I have looked at a couple of CSI BMWs, and while nice cars, they all seem to have little issues. I did look at one pristine Lexus SC300 that was a 1990 with 75,000 original miles, that was a one owner trade in which I liked a lot, and was almost perfect.
With this, I was thinking about maybe going with the lexus, but I know that if I do, I will likly loose money on it over time due to depreciation. I still would like to look at some SECs, so I might go out of town to do that. Is there anything that I need to look out for on these? How hard it to get parts for these, as they seem even more rare then my 1983 500SL. I guess, I will have to continue to shop around. The car will see about 5k per year, and unfortunitly won't be graged, but will me kept clean and waxed. Last edited by nh500sl; 02-04-2006 at 02:30 PM. |

I suppose it goes without saying that an SEC is an awesome cars. After all these years, they still look so incredibly classy and elegant. If that is the car you have your heart set on, it would be worth waiting and looking for awhile. The 635csi is also a great car in its own right.
I've always loved the Lexus SC300/SC400 series. I think they are the best design that Lexus ahs ever come out with, and they are very similar to the SEC in many ways. The mechanicals are very durable, and they make great all-around vehicles. Most of the SC400s seem to be equipped with the optional Nakamichi stereo which sounds very good for a factory system. I'd say go with your gut on this purchase, because all the cars are very appealing in their own way. |
