Thanks.
Well look at that crap. They cut the div and the stock tanked even more. Yeah, real smart. The ONLY thing the stock had going for it was the div. People are going to run away from this *****pile now for sure. Once they dump GMAC I'm real curious to see what GM will do to make money. I sure don't see them doing it by making cars. Saturn can get spun off along with Hummer, but the rest of it? Buick and Pontiac are worth what? A nickle? Two brands that have been so destroyed it isn't even funny anymore. Chevy has nothing. The vette... maybe. And I guess trucks do OK. But the rest is trash. Cadillac, could I suppose reposition itself it does seem to have some decent looking cars lately. All in all, @ 5% return, F-it. The cash is better off in HSBC. People think they're going to see another turn around like Chyrsler. Yeah right. They lack Lee I. to make that happen. Shoot, GM couldn't even get the Minivan right. Pretty sad really. |

Kerkorian just bought 12,000,000 share two weeks ago. He's no dummy. He actually has quite a bit more money than I do, so I'm gonna watch what he does.

That was my thinking when I got in. Are you in or just watching? I'm in @ around $24... I think his average buy price (he started in the $30's) is higher than mine. That should be good then, no. LOL. |

ive got $250ish into GM stock, our family drives a total of 12 GM vehicals out of about 20 (big family)
Its been holding pretty good, and I REALLY want them to make a stripper race car... Base would have: 3.8, 5 speed, No AC, no radio, power nothing, cloth seats, no ABS or airbags (I think ABS isnt required anymore, dunno about airbags) and the alacart options would include ac, radio, supercharged 3.8, power windows/locks, auto, leather (OR mbtex... right), and a few other things... and the dealer would beable to install a few more mods, and keep a small warentee (exhaust, cooler radio, rims, lowering... bla bla bla) base for <8, fully optioned for <14 Make them in USA, use SAE sizes, and quit paying people $30 an hour to build them... 10-15 unless theyre doing something critical... ~Nate

Well, day two since they cut the div. And the stock is still sinking like a stone. I'm in it until the cows come home, so I don't care. But I gotta say, I think they're dreaming if they think this is going to be a turn around like the Iacocca days. No way. First of all our economy is in the crapper (contrary to the red state dreamers)... and second of all the debt/pension etc. load is off the charts. I just don't see them doing it, but I'm a gambling man. Hehe. (Not really, but...)

No and Yes. GM's troubles run so deep that 1.1 Billion a year was a small price to pay for shareholder confidence. Reducing the div @ this price is fine, but the logic is that if the stock is very undervalued right now (GM would like to hope) then what is the return going to be when the stock "rebounds" (in GM's mind) higher? The return will go down. The only thing I can think of is that they cut the div. Get people to dump cheap (like now), fat-cats buy it low -- and ride it up the curve (if it happens). Kirk. is a genius, he doesn't buy things to lose. That's the *only* reason I'm staying in right now. I'll admit, I first got on for the pre-tax of 10% on my money. Pete P.S. Nice to see you back around. |

I love stocks!!! My sole reason for going to school is so I can learn as much as possible about the financial field. Anyway, alot of professors told me that GM will take a long time to rebound especially while they are trying to restructure. The reason for cutting the dividend is that they don't have money to pay it out to shareholders. A company pays a dividend when it has good earnings and they decide to give back to the stockholders.
PS. Over the last 50 years, stocks that DO NOT pay dividends have a better capital gains record over stocks that pay them. When investing you should not only be basing your decisions on Income Stocks (dividend paying stocks) but should diversify into many different playing fields. I actually like growth stocks but they tend to be high risk....high return as well. For example: In September, I bought 1000 shares of GGB at 13.50 and now (4 months later) they are at 20.70. Another good one that might take off is HW (headwaters).....very interesting company that turns COAL into liquid fuel and they have alot of cash on their books. (cash is king). This is the sole reason why I drive a crappy car while I'm in college....I used to have a brand new GTI VR6 and a very good friend that works for Merrill Lynch told me to sell it and invest every penny in the stock market. Anyway, sold the car for close to 20,000 and the money has more than tripled in 3 years (Google helped alot and my friend always calls me when something good is about to happen ) It worked out well since that same care would probably be worth 10k right now. Moral of the story: You don't need a nice car when you are in college. I'll stop my rambling for now. |

I don't think the gov. wants to see the company sink either. Too many military contracts are on the line. I doubt they are ready to hand that business over to foreign competition, yet. I think we will see many "fascinating" little things happen at GM as it somehow stays afloat.
