Left Friday on a 220 mi. weekend junket, I was heading into the teeth of a very heavy duty rain storm. Wasn't driving over 70 mph. The wiper was on full speed and barely keeping up. My wife and I were straining to see ahead and BAM! A solid, black object that looked the size of a cell phone slammed into the windshield, and rolled right up the windshield and flew off the roof of the car. Didn't break the windshield, but was so 'violent' I pulled over at the next gas station to survey the damage. Turns out, it was the trim piece that covers the hydraulic arm at the base of the wiper had simply let go and hit the windshield. I ordered a replacement today.
Also, I hit a great mass of sheetwater on the interstate about an hour after that first fiasco, and the CEL check engine electronics indicator came on. It had quit raining for the most part, so I got on her to troubleshoot. The turbo felt like it was being held back, and the car wouldn't go over 80. The shift points seemed to be at the wrong place too. Crap. I again pulled over and this time checked the fuel cap, which I learned here, can sometimes affect fuel delivery in this model. It was tight. I was worried. On Sunday, when we were driving back, it was beautiful out. I was carefully cruising along and the light went out. I gigged it and the turbo was back and everything was back to normal. I guess some sensor got wet and this affected the fuel delivery some how+
Anyway, the trim piece was scary!
