Beautiful Autos!!!

Hows your car lookin now, after the repaint?

I wish my 600 was in that shape. We are having the front air dam removed and plastic welded/painted this summer. It is time, as it is all chipped from freway driving. It also has cracks where someone smahed it on a curb (damn previous owners). It will look good when its done though.

Great pictures of all those Mercedes...which reminds me...
...I would like to pose a question Justin/anybody ?
I have a customers 1956 190SL
VIN #A121040-6500646......She would like to restore it as it was a gift from her late husband.
The floors are rusted through and the interior is needing total replacement. Exterior paint need back to metal and chrome bumpers are is poor shape and front is badly bent. Car was left outside for 9 years here in Oklahoma.

I know this does not tell you too much, but is it worth restoring ?

If she truely wants it that badly, give her an estimate, and tell her that it could potentially be higher. If she goes through it, and she has unlimited funds, go through with it. It would be a cool project. I personally would restore it for I would have fun restoring it. If the frame is straight, and she is dead set on it, why not restore it?? Remember the customer is always right...

I know in that condition you describe, you could probibally fetch in the area of $5000-$7000. I am trying to get one that has been parked in my friends backyard for years.

Thanks for the feedback Justin. I origonally told her it would run $21,000.00 to get it ready for painting.
I fixed the brakes.
I have got the engine near to running....they had put later hi performance carbs on it....the distributor was missing and the fuel tank was totally rusted through.
Mercedes found me a tank sender and a engine side panel. They wanted $700.00 for the tank.
She balked at the estimate last year.....I have put it on hold for now.

What do they fetch running ?

Their is a real nice orange 190SL at the dealer I get my parts from. It pretty much lives in the service bay of the dealer right behind the show room. Customer keeps giving them money and they keep spending it. Body and interior are flawless, its nice enough to be in the showroom.

I need to get to one of those MB shows, the run one in Greenwich CT (I think) once a year.

I am waiting to have my SDL painted to flawless perfection before I even entertain the idea of entering it in the local MBCA concours.

I would expect a full frame off restoration of a 190SL to run about $50k-$100k depending... Bargin considering that good 300's go for what $250k+?

Eric, where was that car show/meet? I didn't know about it. We (a bunch of W123 owners) were up in Cambria and Pismo Beach causing trouble for the establishment with our diesels.

You can buy a beautiful resotred 190SL for about 20k-35k.... We looked at trading the 600 for a mint 190SL about 2 months ago. We both were at Chevron putting gas into the car, and my pops and the older gentleman talked tp eachother for about 30 minutes, still at the pump. He bought it, restored it, and its his baby. My dad said the same thing about his 600 being his baby, and they both agreed tat they both had nice cars... Its just he wanted a nice 600, and we want a nice 190, so we almost hit it rich. He has put about $17,000 into it from day 1. It was running when he got it. The trannie needed an overhaul, and there was rust everywhere. He was one of those people who tried to do everything he could himself. That was key to him having a top notch auto.

Now, if yours runs, and is in the condition you describe, you could fetch about 9k at the high end. Locally, I have seen 2 in the condition you describe, one for 6 grand, the other for 7.5 grand. There was a cherry example at one of the import delaers here, and they wanted 45k after tax and licensing. I would love to own a car like this, but it is just way tooooo much money. For me, it is just wishful thinking.

One of my goals is to get a 190SL in my possession, but after seeing the Seafoam Green one, I now know the color I want. Never seen anything like it - I love it!

Thanks for the photos - post as many as you have. I love looking at them.

That's where my 300CD was bought by an "older" lady in 1978.
