bought a 1983 633 CSI today

Well, since I sold my 1983 Volvo 244 turbo, I decided that I have always liked the six series bmw. It has the inline six with the five speed manual gearbox. The car is in nice orignal shape, and should respond quite well to a detail. I will have a lot to learn about the car, but it should be a fun project to perfect. I will post pictures latter.

Do so! I have always had a fondness for the six-series Bimmers as well!

As far as the new body style Bimmers, the ONLY one that looks classy is again, the six-series!

I love those cars! There is a cherry one driven by an old guy I see around town every so often.

I had a 630CSi for about 10 years. It was a great car, but had one flaw. The automatic transmission gave up its soul twice. Since yours is a manual, no problem. It the same drivetrain as the 5 series and is bulletproof. Easy to get cheap mechanical parts, but the body panels and interior hardware are outrageous. Have fun!

That 6-series body still looks amazing...I'd love to have one. My personal observation is that BMW upholstery doesn't tend to hold up as well as Mbz and the thought of reupholstering that sculpted backseat in a 6 series makes me cringe...that must be big bucks. If I could get one in decent shape without spending a fortune I'd do it in a minute. I've also been looking at the early 70's BMW big sedans, 2.5, 3.0 and Bavaria...the ones I've seen locally are either rusting to pieces or the sellers want big money, more than I feel comfortable spending on 4-wheeled toys.

Congrats on the new aquisition!

The 6 series has always been one of my favorite designs by BMW. I have an E9 coupe, which has been a great car with its only real flaws being that it tends to run warm when it is very hot out and the fact that the sheetmetal rusts overnight if not kept dry! Luckily it has been garaged and kept indoors during the rainy season for its life! But by far the 6 of the 80's and the E9 are probably two of the better designs by BMW. Enjoy your new car!

Excellent choice.

I've owned a Bavaria and a 535i (E28) and have always liked the 6 series coupes and the karmann (E9) coupes. Modern BMWs are not my cup of tea at all.

Muscle cars are huge right now b/c all the guys who couldn't afford one new are now 50 something loaded empty nesters. I don't have particular fondness for Mopars, Z28s, etc. I'm 30- back when I began to be a serious car freak in junior high, I lived in a fairly upscale area. The tastes of that era and area have always rubbed off- rather than make payments on a new cheap car, I've always owned 535is, W126 MBs, Audi 5000 Turbo Quattros, etc. Those are my version of the "muscle" era- the stuff that was unobtanium owing to both my age at the time, and the $30-90k price of such beasts new. The 635CSi fits well into that category. Congrats on your purchase, let's see pics.

The car is a nice daily driver. The paint is white, show it should clean up nicely I hope. The interior is in good shape, except for the leather of the driver seat is worn through. The passenger's seat seems okay. The dash is uncracked, which seems amazing, and the back seat is like new.

Their is a couple of issues that I need to sort, it's missing the valance, I can hear the sunroof motor but is does not sound good and does not move the roof, and finally, I can't get the passenger door unlocked.

Aside from the few issues that it seems to have, it's very enjoyable to drive, especially for 210,000 miles. Hopefully I will be able to post pictures tomorrw, when it is not pouring buckets outside.

The other funny thing was, that I found a book of matches in the door pocket with my last name on it.
