btw, the defense psych. is going to testify today, and has of course, determined that the guy is criminally insane. again, the judge and jury will have an opportunity to weigh the testimony (we will not).

John, what do you think of Mike Tangas' scary bit of knowledgeable paranoia? For me, I have two things that it brings to mind.

First, the justice system depends on all of the people involved doing what's right, regardless of the external outcomes. Thus even if execution were a signal to trigger an awful response, I think the jury should vote it's beliefs based on the case.

Second, I hope that the people we pay to be professionally paranoid are looking for just that sort of thing.

I am of course not qualified to discourse with Tangas on this issue that he gets to see from the inside, but will offer my thoughts as an observer. If Moosehead (I give up on butchering the spelling guy's name) is as disonnected and inconsequential as Ron argues, why would a cell activate if a raving lunatic gets executed? My understanding is that the FBIs get threats everyday that things are going to happen if we don't pull out of the ME by such and such a date. Also, I have only closely followed the exposure of one terrorist cell, and this lead me to some personal conclusions. The cell i speak of was the one in Charlotte, NC that was selling cheap NC cigarrettes in heavier taxed jurisdictions and sending the profits to the ME. As you may recall, some of those chaps broke for leniency and exposed other cells, each which had as their mission to raise funds, not to blow up buildings. I don't know if I believe that the cells would risk more exposure of being found out for Moosehead's vindication. I think they would pick a better Martyr.

I am not jumping up and down to put the guy down, but really wouldn't care if that is what the jury finds appropriate.

Response # 2

1. Yes, and this is why JFK and then RFK were murdered (imo, you know I am a Marcello student )

2. Damn right they are looking for it. It even happens on a local level, ie: to prevent a Rodney King repeat. It happened in Durham NC last week when the DA held a 'forum' at the alleged victim's college.

It does seem possible that the public spectacle of this trial has now rendered him consequential -- I don't know, just a thought...

Yes, entirely, but I am talking about the actual terrorists that Tangas contemplates may trigger activity at his demise. If the public thinks he is consequential, than killing him may boost public confidence in the way we are dealin wit tarrism, eh?
