Mozilla/Firefox deleated 'bookmarks' this morning !

Good morning all...
On screen this morning had notice of latest update from Firefox/Mozilla to 1.5.

Reboot got me a suprize ! 'Bookmarks' list was empty.
Went to Firefox help page but I cannot duplicate what they suggest...that is run MS Windows and run Firefox in 'safe mode'

Anyone found a simple way of recovering my previous links/bookmarks etc ?

.

There may be other threads here on the forum about Firefox bookmarks, but the one I remember off the top of my head is this one.

I occasionally make a backup copy (different name, different location) of my bookmarks file. I think there may even be a Firefox extension or some such to generate archive copies automatically.

OK, using the Windows "Search for Files or Folders" and searching on "bookmarks", I see a number of files. Sorted by date, this is what's in the folder for my normal Firefox profile:

bookmarks.bak
bookmarks.html
bookmarks-2006-04-14.html
bookmarks-2006-04-13.html
bookmarks-2006-04-12.html
bookmarks-2006-04-11.html
bookmarks-2006-04-10.html

It appears that I am automagically covered a few days back in case of disaster.

I think that a wholesale change of bookmarks is as simple as copying (with Firefox not running) the desired .html file to the folder for your usual Firefox profile, then renaming it "bookmarks.html". Poke around using the file search, and see what sort of bookmarks files are still on your system.

BOOKMARKS>MANAGE BOOKMARKS>FILE>IMPORT.

Then locate the files in the little dialogue box.

Well, there can be more than one profile in Firefox, and you want to find the one you usually use. When you're looking at the results of your Windows search, do so in "details view", and have it sort the results by date. The most recent ones should be from the last time you used Firefox, so the folder those are in is the one for your usual profile. Copy a bookmarks file to that directory, and rename it "bookmarks.html" - do this while Firefox is not in use. When you start Firefox, that new bookmarks file should be the one it uses.

When you're looking for likely candidates among the results of the Windows search, pay attention to the file size. The default bookmarks file that comes with Firefox is tiny; my regular working bookmarks file is >400KB in size.

This is a manual way of replacing the entire bookmarks file. You might want to try the method that justinwrock has offered to see if that more conveniently gets you where you want to be.
