I was told their were 39 orignals. Supposidly worth $5m ish each depending on the market. I have no idea how many are still around.

Out of the original 39 GTOs, there are now 42. All original 39 are accounted for, and then some. That specific GTO is owned by an older woman in her late 60's or so. Bought it in the 70's for $7K if I recall. She races it from time to time.

well, i was going to say that they all are still around. i was thinking 32 but didnt check. i have not read that there are any duplicates, but i have read of other valuable cars that have three chassis of the same number. i think a jag d type for example. the gto has always been prized so they have never been lost track of like some others.
i have heard of sale prices over 10 million, i believe 12. of course there are replicas built on less valuable chassis like the gte or the 330 gt four seater. i dont count the ones on datsun or corvette chassis. tom w

Yeah, the extra cars are over disputed chassis, not replicas. It's kind of a more grey area with these as many used to be race cars with lots of extra parts and configurations over their lifetimes.
Just for fun, here's another picture of this car (chassis 3647) showing the condition. The second picture is the same car at the nurburgring when it was racing. Edit: Hattie - did you see these at the KTR dyno day? I think it was May 6, could be wrong though.

What do you know about that GTO? You seem to know a bit about them. Tell me about this KTR dyno day. I just found these pic's on google when I was looking for a new screen saver, no cool story behind them unfortunitly.

I have one of my dad doing a MASSIVE one at the track warming up the tires!!!!
Other than that, I have one of my 400E being engulfed by a cloud of smoke. I have to look for them though. I think that they are on my external HD.
