This Should Scare The Hell Out Of You

Frighteningly, thinking such as that in the following article is spreading:

Someone named Dr. Robert O. Freedman, of the Baltimore Hebrew University wrote an op-ed piece for The Baltimore Jewish Times in which he suggested that what this world needs is an International Religious Court that would ask governments to punish anyone who directs an insult at any religion or religious figure.

Freedman writes" All governments must agree that the negative depiction of religion is out of bounds." What Freedman means, of course, is that it should be a crime to make any negative comment about religion.

Nice, huh? A real champion of free speech, that Dr. Robert O. Freedman.

Sadly, generations of government education have rendered a huge segment of the American population a little to dull to understand just how very dangerous Freedman's words are.

Mike

I agree with you completely on this one. Sure hope it will never come to pass.

Sounds fair to me since the aetheists seem to think its fine to attack and spread lies about organised religion. And try to force their anti-religion views on the vast majority and expect no repercussions from it.

Golly? What religion do you think is at the top of his agenda?

It doesn't scare me because it has as much credibility as L. Farakhan's rantings. Just something a college professor throwing out there for thought provoking shock value

Ohh, Ohhh, I know Gotta--he's a whiney Jew, right? Why was it necessary to point out the painfully obvious? Again, presentation, dude, presentation. And it has nothing to do with being straightforward--there is no one on the forum who couldn't figure out his agenda.

Exactly. And nobody willing to say it. And that is *exactly* the problem. Presentation in this case has nothing to do with it. The fact that people won't point it out does. Perhaps if Israel stopped behaving in such a way that made so many people dislike them The Freedman's of the world could spend their time doing something else?

You seriously want it to be ILLEGAL for anyone to say anything negative about anyone's religion?!?!

What makes you think that YOUR chosen religion is any more important than MY right to freedom of speech?

I guess he wants us to lose more of our personal freedoms? BHD... you want it to be a crime for me to voice if I don't agree with a person's religion? So if I don't agree with Zionism, I would be guilty of a crime if I used my 1st Amendment right to do so? Where do you draw the line?

Hmm....

Bonehead has said quite a few negative things about Islam on this forum, as I recall... Under this professor's plan (that he apparently supports), his actions would be illegal.

Is THAT really what you want, Bone?

Where was Mr. Freedman during the Rodney King days? Please.

The crime is that people acted like animals NOT the cartoons. But we live in a world where people think that guns kill people, not people. So what can I say?

Hey...if liberal judges are going to assist them in persecuting the Christians like has been happening then I'mm all for it. Last 10-20 years I've had enough of the atheists trying to dictate how and who religious holidays I will celibrate.

THey pissed away the live and let live thing when they started this anti christian crusade.

That's ridiculous, and you know it. You're talking nonsense.

By your logic then, YOU should be in jail for spreading anti-Islamic propaganda.

I'm "anti-Christian" in quite a number of ways, and I often say so... Do you think I should be silenced and/or jailed?...

Mike

anyone who is trying to deny christians THEIR right to practice religion should be.

I personally have no problems with people being atheists...BUT I have trouble with atheists trying to force everyone else to be or behave like atheists.
