The deck boss had to feather the throttle on that Volvo turbodiesel, or we'd bust through at the crest and drop the full thirty feet, straight down. It was hairy.
The guys I read about had these double-ender looking skifs with outboards mounted through the transoms. They would launch them off the beach somewhere in Oregon and shoot the breakers to go fishing. Looked crazy to me. Reminded me of those outrigger guys in Hawaii.

In your situation--almost any situation involving being at sea and in peril is definitely an adrenaline rush. Although not nearly as hairy as yours, I recall one such situation when another guy and myself got caught in a squall in a J-22 sailboat (with no motor) outside of the harbor and seawall of Chas, SC. We had reefed all the way down to the poles and the wind got up to about 45-50. Just maintaining enough steerage to get inside the sea wall was scary and we had everything ready to bail out if necessary. To make matters worse, we had to then make it another 2 1/2 miles on poles alone to get the boat back to the dock, then dock it. At that point, the only danger was explaining to the sailing coach why we were outside of the sea bouy in the J-Boat

Some of my friends basejump off El Capitan. Never tried it, could never afford a setup.

XC skiing difficult terrain is quite a rush. Some of the trails are about 5ft wide and twisty with trees on either side. That's pretty cool, like singletrack mountain biking but without brakes.
Bump for Pete.

I used to get one when wrestling.

Now only in near accidents and when autocrossing. After a run it takes a while to come down....

On occasion I have had one when in a person to person confrontation....this can be tricky.

I sometimes watch other folks arguing vehemently in another person's face and I sometimes comment that it appears that that person has never been hit in the face by an adult male.

I have and I would like to avoid it in the future if at all possible.

I saw JD's post above and thought he was back until I saw the posts were old. I miss him and Ernesto. I hope they're back soon.

If adrenalin is drag racing, then endorphins are the 24 Heures du Mans.

I get them when when racing various sailboats...and things go wrong... Lets see almost ending up on the rocks. Then we stuffed the bow into a big rollar going down wind in the Star, blew the pole apart that I was standing next to, knocked me down. Or the time we were under another boat about to tack off and I hear what sounded like a gunshot. The shroud gave way and the mast ended up 4ft in front of our bow, that would have hurt!

But for a self induced rush, skiing is the most affective.

My friend who used to race a Swan 46 has some amazing stories. Did you know when a carbon fiber pole blows apart it shatters like a piece of glass!

Nothing gets me going more than demolition derby. there is no feeling quite like accelerating across an arena and absolutely wailing on another car. especially nose to nose. hearing the crowd roar after you made a massive hit is great too

When I read this I had forgotten what the title of the thread was.

I thought, "Whoa, I ain't rasslin' with him!"

You have to read it with a mind way-too-open to interpretation.

As Jack Nicolson said in "As good as it gets"....."If that does it for you, good for you, but that doesn't do it for me."

No, I never got one while wrestling guys.

LOL
