w124 v8

My '91 300e is getting up in the miles, close to 300k. The engine is fine, burns about 2 quarts between 4k mile changes... the trans is newer than the car, but has over 100k it slips a little from first to second.

I really like the car, a full repaint is in order as well as all new suspension. I would like to put the 500e v8 in there, but MB engines are so expensive, however strong.

A small block Chevy is in mind, nothing wrong with American muscle in my mind, look at Lemans. It would remain an auto, and quite exhaust ( I already have the 500e exhaust on).

I used to have BMWs and this has been done with a stick, but how about MB?

Kyle

the LS1 is really what I want to do... it is a little stronger than the 400E engine

The 420 would be a good replacement. I want the 500e power without the look... I love the 500e look, but I want to keep it sleeper, untill I can get an AMG 500e

This sounds like a GREAT questions for the 500E forum www.500ecstacy.com

(not sure of the exact website spelling)

Check out this website:

http://www.hotrodlane.cc/

I'm sure they will give you some valuable information if you want to attempt it...I've never seen it done on a W124 though...I've seen a Mercedes-Benz V12 inside a W124 chassis before...I think it was Brabus who did it...

I understand the W119 motor described in www.mbcoupes.com that was shoehorned into the 560SEC, "my 32 valve 110 engine" on the front page, now has had that motor dumped and a V12 motor put in...

keep in mind that there are more difference between the 300E and the 500Es than just the engine. It will certainly change the handling, and you may find the suspension and brakes don't quite keep up with the extra power. MB made many modifications to account for the extra power. Probably better off to buy an E420 or E500.

definately will not be a 94-95 e###, if anything it would be a 400e, but that will not be as good as a 500e on Sportline stuff...
