Photo slide presention for DVD/CD for TV

I just got back from vacation and I would like to put the photos I took on a DVD or CD that wil play on a TV. I have hunted around on line for software but cannot really find anything. Part of the reason is I am not even sure what I am looking for (in terms of what terms to search for). I have Power Point but that seems to only work for a PC basesd presentaion.

I would like to beable to give the DVD or CD to someone who does not have a pc, have them put it in their DVD player and just be able to look at a slide show type presentaion. Any ideas?

Thanks

Your options are VCD or DVD. VCD tends to have lower resolution, so DVD is your best bet.

Creating a "slide show" disc that will run on any DVD player will require software, some shareware/freeware or retail, to burn the files to disk. The better software provides options such as wipes/fades and the ability to add a soundtrack. Check the software that came with your DVD drive, or operating system, Microsoft Media or OS X iPhoto.

Some DVD players have built it slideshow features.

The easiest and the best for both starters and pros...

I did a DVD slideshow presentation of my dad’s Dust Off unit in Vietnam. I had never done a slideshow like this before in my life. When done, it was all choreographed to music and radio tapes from his unit. Over 300 images. I showed it at their reunion and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. I guess I get a little credit for it, but I put most of the credit into to two programs I made it with.

Photodex - Pro Show Gold for the imaging.
DanDans - Music Editing Master for the audio.

I went through about 5 different free downloads of each type of program before I settled on these two. Easy to understand icons and tool bars.
They are awesome. VERY easy to use. All drag and drop. Both work wonderfully together. Nothing really hi-tech about either. Just straight forward programs. Once you have it put together, just tell it how many copies you want, and start feeding the DVD writer. Both have a free download version for trial. Unless you’re a real computer geek, these are hands down the best programs IMHO for what you’re wanting to do.

Thanks for the info. I will look into them. We just got back from a family history type vaction. We went to where my mom was held prisoner by the Nazis, where my dad was born and where he was held prisoner also. Very emotional trip and I want it documeted.

David: I use two DVD/CD creator software pack ages. One is by "Roxio" which is good for DVD and CD, the other is Adobe Photoshop CS2 which is very user friendly. Sony makes a good one too which comes with the DVD burner. Hope this helps.
