Huge bucks for an HR. Incidentially, the guy that owned the marina I worked for first year out of college had one of the 5 Hatteras 65 SAILboats ever made.

Sailing has got to be my all-time favorite hobby. It even beats working on my diesels. My dad has a 22ft Dolphin on the lake that's about 100 yards from my house. Its a pretty good sized lake, too. There's nothing like being out there by yourself with the wind giving you a lift, riding that sweet spot. I also get rides on small boats when I can and I hang out at the local sailing club whenever work permits. I own a 19ft Allen Lightening that I'm attempting to restore and a 14 ft Kite that needs a new dagger board. My parents regulary go to the Keys and I have a fellow Mercedes diesel owner friend who's promised me a trip on his 42ft boat, also in the Keys, in exchange for some work I helped him with on his diesel. Man I can't wait till next summer.

Lightning's haul ass! Tough boat to race (for me).
The next realistic sailboat in my future is a Cape Dory 28 when my girls get bigger. |
All here seen "Wind" ??

Now there’s a movie most of these posters should have. We’ve got a Laser II GP “Blow Me!!“, the wife and I race. She (wife) lives for hanging out on trap. An old (‘71?) Holiday Newport 19 “Amante” that’s up for restoration this summer and then teaching the kids. And a Hunter 386 “Infinity 4”, up on Texoma, that sailor15015 needs to get down from Norman and give a go just to keep her loose. I’ll do a motorboat any day. So long as it’s my 14-6 cedar skiff “Vivienne” with the Johnson Seahorse 5 on the transom.:D |

So Hat made sailboats? I will have to dig up info on them. Chris Craft did as well, they made a 42 that was an S&S design. Really nice boat, only made about 65 of them. They are built like tanks, because back in the late 60's and 70's they just loaded up on the fiberglass. |
I'm not a hard core sailer like you folks (hell, I have not been on the water in years) but I grew up with a Skylark. It was a blast to sail. 14ft with a 21ft mast IIRC. It had a tunnel hull with twin keel daggers.
I wish I could find one again. I would love to have one again. http://www.spruce.ca/images/Skylark/SkylarkManual1.jpg |

Hatt, I almost had a seizure when the Hatt archivist just called my office!!!!!!!!! Check it out: http://www.hatterasowners.com/Brochures/65SY/65SYArchives.htm She said there were actually only 3 made: one went to my guy in VA, one went to the Islands and one went to the West Coast. |
I am familer with the Santa Cruz, I still like the HR's better. Swans even more so.
Thats a neat boat that Hat made. Looks just like an Irwin. Actualy the layout inside is similer to the Irwin 52 I was on today. Although its probably built a lot better. Like a typical Hat it weighs a lot! Nice boat, maybe one day I'll get lucky and get to check one out. Its a Hood design so it must sail pretty decent. |

I want to edit my statement. I talked to a couple of people today with some serious ocean time. I am not that familer with Santa Cruz and wanted to be. SC's are good for going around the mark but light toys for offshore work. One took a 70 back from the USVI's and had a bit of weather, he thought that boat was going to come apart. He called my friend when he got back and said he wished he took the Swan 46 back.:D So in conclusion Santa Cruz are light around the mark boats. Rassy is a different animal. |
