Wow. Ben Rothlesburger apparently wrecked his motorcyle today and wasn't wearing a helment. Head on with a car. I have heard he broke both eye sockets, has concussion, broke his knee, ect......

Damn.

Med, I stand by what I said regarding motorcycles earlier!

I don't know, but you know I have seen NFL contracts and have seen the inherently dangerous activity clauses. I feel sorry for him for his injuries and hope for the best (Steeler fan) but he must have been drunk or just stupid to ride w/out a helment with that much at stake.

knees ok maybe strained they are saying... Sheesh... he was heading east and not speeding by any accounts... a 68 year old woman in a Chrysler New Yorker was heading west and making a left turn to cross a bridge and apparently didn't see him...

Those who don't wear helmuts have nothing to protect.

Yeah, I just saw the update of the injuries on cnn and saw a picture of the bike--not too bad. But you are right, what a DA for riding that crotch rocket without a helment.

I saw the video of what his face did to the windshield...ouch

but again riding without a helmet is :silly:

Sometimes helmets help, other times it doesn't matter
 

I saw it on the news, and it was a BIG bike, maybe a big Harley, and the 68 year old lady in the Chrysler LHS apparently made a left turn in front of him and he hit the car and ate the windshield, and went down...

Pennsylvania is a state withouot a helmet law, and he was riding without one, as was his legal right, but, wow....

I have a friend with a new HD Lowrider, but she has been riding an 883 before that for many years, and is real experienced and a great rider, but she wears leathers,and a beanie helmet because California has a helmet law, which she hates. (As does every HD owner I have)

Yet when stuff like this goes down, I cringe and affirm my belief that helmet laws really save lives and injuries, like seat belt laws do...(even though exceptions are always cited "he lived cause he was thrown free of the wreck" etc.

My friend's daughter said, about a week ago, three buddies who just got out of the service, and they all bought new Japanese rice rocket bikes, and were going down the road, all three friends together, doing 80-100 mph, and pulling wheelies, when the light on the Blvd. changed to red, two of them noticed and stopped in time, the third didn't, and blew the light at 100 mph and T boned a car in the intersection, and was killed instantly, severed body parts in the street, helmet law didn't help (this was in the Bay Area, Calif.) They were all 22 years old.....

Tragic waste of life, so sad

When I started riding, the guy who was coaching me drummed into my head the danger of left-turning cars.

I haven't ridden for several years, but when I'm approaching a car that's trying to turn left (or even looks as though it might do so), there is still a little alarm in my head that goes off sometimes.

Yeah, it was a japanese crotch rocket. The law doesn't matter--I bet his contract with the Steelers mandates that he wear one if he wants to ride a motorcycle.

Just in ,,,,, Big Ben did not have a motorcycle drivers license, and consequently was driving illegally.:silly:

Helmet Law
 

PA just repealed the helmet law about two years ago after a big battle with the biker groups for years. Any bets what is on the adjenda in this fall's legislative session.

Law or not, it is down right DUMB not to wear one. Been riding for over 25 years and the helmet goes on, even to go down to the corner store.

CA had no helmet law for years and Gary Bussey was a big proponent for keeping it that way. Remember when they peeled his head off a curb when he wrecked? The got the helmet law two years later.

The really sad thing is that it usually takes a tradgety to wake some people up. I haven't been on the v-twin forum yet today but I'm sure there is a lot going on over there about it.

You have to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle but you don't have to wear one while driving a motorcycle. How stupid is that?
I always wear my helmet. In fact I don't feel comfortable without it. It's not a matter of IF you crash it a matter of WHEN you crash. If you ride you WILL go down! And that's a fact.

Most of the motorcycle forums are going on about the big accident up in Laconia this week.

That's a heavy price to pay for feeling the wind on your scalp. A helmet doesn't always help, but in this case it definitely would have. Some people grow up the hard way.
