Red face Your Dream Retirement

It's Monday, it's rainy outside in the Metro DC Area and time for alittle dream. What is your dream retirement? Mine- that I can retire someday to Savannah, GA and buy a little house with a va-ran-dah where I can sit and sip mint julips as the sun goes down

Running a junk shop on a little island somewhere. I'd find and reclaim old metal knick-knacks at my leisure, refinish/paint them, and sell them to junk-starved tourists whom I will never see again.

A friend . . .

A good friend who lives in Savannah with a front porch, mint juleps, and a cigar to smoke while watching the sun go down.

Hmm I am seeing a large Swan, and many many miles of open ocean. Maybe sailing a 57, to nowhere in particular. Its a big world, lots of ocean...

I agree. If I won the lottery I would continue working as Tom describes, travel a bit, and putter with a car, maybe two.
regards,
Mark

Retire to some remote island in the South Pacific. Maintain a small condo back in the State side so once in a while I will just drop back in.

The thought of retiring makes me want to vomit...I saw too many of my grandpa's and dad's friends retire and promptly drop dead within 12-18 months...I'd rather die in the saddle, as it were.

I have given no thought to retirement - I know that this is wrong on a couple levels, but Its tough for me to imagine...I mean...assuming that I have enough money to survive (kinda working on that...a little...) I have too many interests to just deicde "Oh, I'll mess with cars" or "Oh, I'll ride my goldwing across up to Alaska". "I'll lead my church to greater membership and influence" - I can't imagine it being that simple.

I'm kinda jealous of you if you know what you want to do when you retire.

I'm jealous of you if you know what you want to do (with your life) right now =)

To have enough money to keep building things and enough time not to have to rush through it.

As my father said . . .

I'll be glad when I can retire. I have no real desire to quit working. I'd just love to have the luxury of only doing work I want to do.

And spending time with the people I love, seeing places I haven't seen before, trying things I've never done before, . . . All before I'm too old to really enjoy it.

What he said.

I'd like to be able to split my time between restoring old cars and trucks (when I feel like it), doing a little automotive engineering work (when I feel like it), training horses and riders (have to learn a lot more to even start doing that one), and of course travelling and doing absolutely nothing. It'll probably never happen, but a guy can dream, can't he?
