Collection agency called me saturday asking to put a note on neighbors door.

I am outraged. Not only did they violate their privacy but mine as well. I called back the number they requested me to have my neighbors contact. After alot of complaining I was told that someone would be right with me. I was RECONNECTED to the same woman that called me. Either its a fluke or now my NAME/NUMBER is connected to the collections of my neighbor!!! Am I the only person outraged?

They called you asking you do this, and you called them back? Collection agencies are well-known to be shady, just stay out of it entirely and try not to make someone else's problem yours.

They're dirtballs - what can you do about it?

I wouldn't say dirtballs...they are hired to do the dirty work most wouldn't tackle because of the evasiveness of the clientele they are targeting...similar to the jobs "repo" men and bounty hunters are asked to perform.

Unfortunately, the "dirtballs" are the ones they are targeting...and the "by the book" ethical tactics would fail most of the time.

Don't know much about your neighbor, but I agree...I would stay far away from this one.

On another tangent...my address was incorrectly listed as a person's address who was being indicted...I got contacted at home via phone, and it took a bit of diplomacy to convince the other party that it really was a mistake!

We had the same thing happen. Some collection agency wanted us to tell the neighbor that they could be arrested. Neighbor went to attorney. Attorney told them that such methods qualify as harrassment and advised them to contact the state Attorney General.

Bill collectors are generally the lowest form of life on earth. Lower than whale poop.

See if you can get a first and last name on the caller, hopefully they're listed call them and ask them to contact their neighbors.

For one thing bill collectors are usually dirtballs with bad credit themselves that is why they do dirtball work. The second part I hate is many of them are collecting on medical bills due to insurance company f--- ups.

Personally I would file an attorney general and FTC compaint.

That's not what Mark meant. He meant that the original poster has no issue with the bill collector and the deadbeat's situation; the poster is caught in the middle and he has no stake in the situation at all.

The problem is that I was reconnected to the same lady who called me the first time. Which means my name and number (minimally) are now part of this collection. That kind of data is an invasion of my privacy.

Collection agencies get paid TO DO THAT, not the neighbors.

I had that problem with a collection agency...it was a doctor screw up. I told them, and the doctor, that onemore call or one more letter and I would end up owning the collection agency AND the doctor's practice. I literally begged to keep up the illegal practices...so I could sue....unfortunately, they stopped harrasing me. I was so looking forward to owning my own collection agency AND medical practice.

Getting back to this thread's subject.

The collection agency violated the neighbor's privacy (BIG TIME) by telling the poster about the neighbor's debt. Sounds to me like the neighbor has a potential lawsuit available to him.
