What were you doing when You found out...

Nixon was quitting? My Grandparents are here visiting and they were talking to my parents about this. My parents grew up in CT and it seems like my Grandparents had driven my mom and dad(who were then dating) down to Great Adventure theme park in NJ. It was a hot day in August and they were standing in a long line to get on a ride, an old man in front of them had a radio and announced to the whole line that Nixon was going to leave office. If you were around back then, where were you and what were you doing? What was your reaction?

I was born in chicago and lived there for about 30 years. Although I learned early to recognize that local politicians were not to be trusted, it wasn't until Nixon that I learned to not blindly trust our president, and I still don't. He did not know he was lying, if he said something he thought it was the truth. I was 26 when he resigned.
regards.

I was a kid and was watching tv with my dad. Walter Cronkite showed the clip of Nixon shakinh his head and saying he wasn't a crook. My dad levitated off the Lazy-Boy and yelled "you ARE a crook" at the tv. Later, realize that he simply got caught doing what every politician does, and was a great president(compared to the peanut farmer).

A vicious Republican thug

The late San Francisco Chronicle columnist Herb Caen said he didn't quite go quite so far as the guy who said "Richard Nixon had to be re-elected because he was the perfect representation of everything this country stood for"

Nixon wouldn't give it up until it was 100% certain he would be impeached.
What a horrible politician he was, a complete disgrace, willing to ring the whole country down to preserve his personal political power.

Hunter S. Thompson ("Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 1972") said Nixon had absolutely no sense of humor, the only thing Nixon would have found funny would have been a handicapped voter who wanted to vote Democratic but could not reach the lever on the voting machine...

I was a Law Student at University of the Pacific Mc George in Sacramento that August. It REALLY distracted me from my studies.

I remember his speech, I was pissed because it preempted Lassie or Flipper or maybe the six million dollar man.

Don't remember specifically . . .

I was already busy being disillusioned with politics and politicians. By the time Nixon resigned nothing really shocked me. This was after Kent State, Vietnam, etc. I was young, cynical, and very liberal politically, back then. Most of that has changed now, but I am still pretty cynical.

I was parked on a hilltop, near the Griffith Park Observatory (in Los Angeles)...necking with my girlfriend...she was getting ready to go to college back East...she went off to school back East and I went to college locally...we never got back together again after that summer...what was the question again ????

I was 12.

I think,to the best of my feeble recollections that I was getting a handjob from the 45 year old wife of a guy who's lawn I cut every week, she always wore skimpy bikinis and asked me to lotion her up where she couldn't reach so that's the natural progression of these things.

"Feeble?"

Are you saying that the spirit was willing but the flesh was weak?

Of course, that brings to mind my job as a boxboy and the middle-aged women who would ask me to carry their groceries home...

I was 9 years old and on vacation with my family in Myrtle Beach, SC.

The only other memory I have of the time was on the same vacation when my brother's friend John Cataldi shook the salad dressing bottle and didn't realize the top was loose. My sister was sitting next to him and got covered in salad dressing.

Some memories never fade.

Well, at least you knew where to stow the bananas and sausage....I hope.

I was 16 before I really lost it,if handjobs don't count.

I frankly told my Grandpa about it,he replied that every orgasm is a hymn of praise to the Almighty,no matter what your age, great guy he was, learned alot from him.

You had a very cool and hip Grandpa...

And yes, I knew where the bananas went...right on top...together with the buns, so they wouldn't get bruised

Someone please stop me...
