R.I.P. - Syd Barrett
Syd Barrett, the co-founder and guiding spirit of Pink Floyd is dead at 60.
Although he was only with the band from 1965 to 1968 his influence continued for years. The entire "Wish You Were Here" album was a tribute to Barrett and several songs on "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" made references to Barrett and his LSD related mental condition. He was replaced by David Gilmour when he left.

Oh wow... I think that it may be time to take some pink floyd out of the storage rack, and play it loud in the 600!

Vintage Pink Floyd
Wasn't he with them when Umma Gumma was made? That was a wild album. I'll have to get it out and play it tonight.

Some of the songs on the live part of Ummagumma were written by Roger 'Syd' Barrett but I believe he was out of the band when it was released.
I love 'A saucerful of secrets,' the last song on that live album. The last part of it, anyway, where it becomes music. I saw Floyd in '93 and I remember they played Astronomy Domine. I figured this was so Syd would get some roylaties somehow. I actually have the albums he made in the early 70's that were produced by David Bowie. It's really hit or miss but some of it is interesting. This is from memory so forgive me if it's not quite perfect... "I've got a bike You can ride it if you like It's got a basket, some bells And many things to make it look good. I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it." That's my favorite song about bikes! R.I.P. Syd.

Sad, I just found out a few minutes ago. It will have to be a "momentary lapse of reason" on the slow ride home from work in the diesel.

I heard that before he left he would just sit on the stage and play the same chord over and over in a daze and so they just shut his amp off until the show was over. Maybe that had something to do with the LSD poking little holes in the brain?

Personal Steppenwolf favorite: "Monster"
America where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters? America, where are you now? We can't fight alone against the monster. regards, Mark |
