New MG?

China's Nanjing Automobile Group plans to resurrect the British MG sports car at a factory in Oklahoma, which would make it the first Chinese automaker to set up shop in the U.S. Nanjing bought the assets of bankrupt MG Rover last year. Enthusiasts said the new MG would have to come with a low price and higher quality than the quirky original. "If you really want to go for nostalgia," said Jeremy Anwyl of Edmunds.com, "you put on a leaky roof." (The New York Times, free registration required)

I'm sure the Chinese version will have its own quirks.

Very cool. More jobs!

It might be an interesting culture clash assuming Michael Keaton isn't the union rep and George Wendt doesn't duke it out with the floor manager like the last time

Morris Garage memories

Ah, the memories...

Owned a white 1959 MGA which I totaled in college in the fall of '68. (Hit a tree head on at about 30 mph after breaks failed) Broken Jaw and 45 stitches in the chin

Replaced that with a 1962 MGA 1600 MKII Twin cam for $600.00. Drove that around for a few years and sold for 200.00 I think about 4 years later.
I never cared too much for the later MGB's or MGC's.

Wonder what the Chinese will come up with.
If it's styled after the MGA, I hope they remove the rear view mirror from the metal dashboard!!

I was looking forward to a twin cam TD or TF! (not the new MG F in the UK since 2002, the 1949-53 TF!)

Don't you be giving MGs a hard time, now. Seriously, I'm really interested to see what they come up with. Supposedly, they will be completing an as of yet unproduced design MG had when it went belly up, again. I never liked their latest offerings, or the MGF, not that I had the option of buying one anyway.

They had some really cool rally cars, the ZR even looks good. I got a feeling being Chinese their venture in the sport will cease. Not to mention, just end up real lame? I mean really, why does everyone who wants a car want a cheaper, slower car these days? And everyone else wants a behemoth!

They'll probably end up being something like a Miata. I don't think I'm so keen on this whole idea of reviving old brands. With luck, it'll be small scale production pure driver's car. No power windows, handbrake and pedals in the correct spot.

I think this is a really good thing

They plan on building the fixed head coupe in OK and the Convertible in Longbridge (UK). This car is not a new design but a re-introduction of the MGTF.

It's a mid-engined two seater sports car with a 1.6 K-Series engine. A friend in the UK test drove it and said it goes like s*** of a shovel.

Personally, I think it's a good thing, Rover has been bleeding for many years, if the Chinese can turn that around and create jobs in the US and the UK then who cares. They are reintroducing a brand that has long left the US.

Here is a picture:

This is my new MG (currently in boxes)
