replacing door lock vacuum pump?
 

Remote door locks don't work on '98 VW GTI. Dealer says vacuum pump needs replacement, but much $$. Where is it located in the car, how do I replace it, is it easy to do, and how do I find a used one?

I've got a similar problem in my '81 300SD. The pump works, it starts up and purrs for a few minutes whenever I unlock the driver's door, but the connection between the pump and the other doors has been broken somehow.

Would like to fix it but haven't had time to research it yet.
