Proper Badge Placement

Hi Guys- I feel like a little kid, yesterday "Maxine" got her High Mileage Badge for 250,000. KM where on the grill does it go? Upper left, middle?

Badge placement

When I got my 150K miles badge for the big grey 420SEL, I put it on the driver's side of the grill, about halfway up from the bottom. Sort of the way we humans will wear a badge over the heart.

Thank you- then that's where it will go. Maxine is a 1990 420 SEL. Alpine white.

1990 420

Alpine white -- thus making her look evern bigger and more impressive! What color is the interior?

Whenever I see a well-kept W126 -- and as much as I love my C230 -- I miss my big old grey beast. Despite the gas consumption and the niggling little things, including some creaks and squeaks from the doors and power rear seat that I could never track down, the 420SEL was a pleasure to drive. On a smooth road (which is getting to be harder and harder to come by down here in The Swamp), the ride and King-of-the-Road feeling were incomparable.

Maybe someday I can swing another one, or can afford a W140 or even W220. I can hope.

Enjoy yours!

Nice reward for the car for achieving that mileage goal!

This car I'm sure will make you feel like a real princess when you drive it, especially if you sometimes walk to work!

If you take care of it, it will last you for a long time! They are real cruisers, not real fast, or economical by today's standards, but will with care probably outlast most new luxury cars out there.

It's understood that these cars are built to a cost no object standard and not to a price point, with old world teutonic thoroughness and build quality.

Plus, good Mercedes mechanics have no trouble working on them.

The 420SEL has the added simplicity of no self leveling rear suspension.

The model run ended in 1991 so yours is one of the last of them produced, so it has all the latest updates, and with the ABS, and SRS it is quite up to date for its age, and best of all, it WILL allow you to walk awaqy from the mother of all accidents, should you get in one.

Keep up with this car!!

When I was looking for one, I was first after a sedan, 10 years ago, and tried the W126 300SEl, 420SEL and 560SEL (There were many around then) and I thought they all performed equally in every situation except for accelleration at around 60 mph. Identical for around town driving and cruising generally.

I hope to hang onto my coupe, but with the grille it has I have no idea where the coupe's high mileage badge wouold go- no place to put it on the coupes and SLs

Thanks to all your replys. I am almost finished with what I call the "rejuvenation" of "Maxine." It started with an oil change and then went to complete front end repair, timing chain w/ guides, new ignition, steering damper, idler arms along with the upcoming repairs of total brake job, new tires all around, hood pad, motor mounts, belts and the ac just died so she will be as good as new shortly. The interior is gray.

Jim, are you kidding me? A princess? I'm sure that would be a demotion for Siduri. She's a queen at the very least, if not a goddess, certainly a legend. . . . in her own mind. Hee, hee, hee.

OMG now she's liable to take umbrage with me on that! I dont know exactly what "umbrage" is, but it doesn't sound good.
