Cheapest way to travel 500 miles?

Theres a forum member selling a car, that I'm EXTREAMLY intereasted in... I want that car...

Problem is, that we're 500 miles apart, and the car's not worth a plane ticket for... I'll drive it up, but putting 1500 miles on 2 seperate cars would be a challenge.

So... questions are...

For $75 or less, how can I get to Crawfordsville, IN...

I was thinking buss ticket, but I've got no idea on prices. I dont think I want to put myself into a fedex box either...

any suggestions?
~Nate

Hop a south-bound freight

Stand by the railroad tracks at your local train yard. When you see a south-bound one coming, get a running start and hop on.

Oh, don't forget . .

Don't forget to bring a boxed lunch. They don't have food service on these, Nate. Happy hoboing!

I rented a car to drive from Houston to Dallas once - picked up at airport and dropped off at airport. $70, and I went mid-size.

Nobody's gonna rent to Nate. You gotta be way old to rent a car.

Thumb it! Hitch a ride! Hang out at the Flying J and ask a cute female trucker if you can, uh, share her cab... if you know what I mean.

Hell, I always use to"hop a rattler",just watch out you don't get "pinched"by the "cinder dicks", and try to avoid "the king'O the North Pole" who'll "shake you down" and "glom your scratch",if you're lucky.

i'm 16... I REALLY dont care... I'll go without showering for a few days, if it means I get a car for <$400

If the car's backseat isnt totally shot, I can sleep there... if it is, I can bring an airmattress... NOT A BIG DEAL.

Sleeping in cars sucks though, but hey, I'll live

Also, there's no way I could rent a car... 16, no credit, and a questionable driving record (18 over warning... 9 days after I got my lisance... BOYAH!!!)

So, Bus is only $60? If the car checks out, I guess that I need to find a few days off work
it's a 30 hour trip (wtf, only takes 8 as per mapquest)

DAMMIT, they hit you with a $15 "gift ticket fee" too...

Nate you haven't mentioned what kind of car it is? Is it a 250 GTO that someone got bored with?

It might be safest to get someone to go with you in the event the car has problems on the way back so you have a support vehicle for the trip home unless you happen to have AAA available.

What happens if it breaks down? For such a car I'd be thinking about a truck, and renting a U Hual trailer.

Nate, where is the car at? If its close in Norcal, I would be more than happy to check it out for you.

I have greyhounded 600 miles before. Just make sure to bring entertainment and power for it.

Did you try Amtrak?
