100+ MPH on a Mountain Bike

Don't try this at home. Don't try this period.

Reminds me of the man who, uh, fell down Everest.

The linky thingy ain't working for me either....

OK, link is working now,not sure I wanted to see that though.

I've heard of front fork failure, but damn, never going THAT fast. I once had a front tire blow out, but I was only doing 40 mph at the time...luckily I had a relatively soft landing.

I would not say that he was asking for his frame to separate like that. I wonder what brand that one was. Possibly it was a glued carbon-fiber/aluminum frame.

Trek recalled a bunch of glued aluminum mountain bikes years ago due to head-tube separation just like this.

Amazing the assumptions we make about our gadgets. Like thinking that a 20 to 30 pound device engineered for 10 to 20 mph, 30 max, is going to flawlessly perform under all conditions.

Cheap thrills. Woo-hoo.
