Since we are on alcohol,,,

I suddenly had an eppifany yesterday. After drinking my favorite beer,, MGD,,, out of a can, I had one out of a bottle. BIG difference in taste, for the better. Does anyone have any insight why that would be so ? If it is indeed the same product, could something from the can be leeching into the beer ? I swear the bottled product tasted much better.

Yep, I completely agree. I was an MGD drinker for years and it tastes like crap out of the can.

Then, after four years or so........it started to taste like crap out of the bottle..........what's up with that??

Never could go back to it...........it's Bass Ale now.........

Bottled is so much better than canned. Only high class people drink bottle beer. Them and MB drivers. Didn't you know that? Don't call me a snob now.

I totally agree. I think it is the way that the glass is a better insulator...

That didn't work too well. First the beer has to have taste.

The edge of the container you drink from has a lot to do with the percieved flavor. Its why people drink wine from a thin edged glass. It hits different taste buds than when you drink from a thick glass. Same holds true for a beer can versus a bottle. Now if you pour the beer into a glass and still detect a difference, then thats something else.

I too like MGD, prefer bottle over can as well. However, I'll drink from whichever is available, plus I'll drink just about any beer when it is free . I do hate when you order a bottle of your favorite liquid bread and they bring a glass to the table, no thanks I'll just drink from the bottle.

Are you sure it wasn't Keystone Light? I recall their "specially lined cans" gave you "bottle taste."

But I also read that the special lines were printed on the outside of the can. Who knows.

IIRC, Al reacts with R-OH at low pH, forming Al-R-OH + H2O(???). It's been 30 years, help me out here. I have no idea what the pH of beer is (funny I never thought to check), but assuming the CO2 reacts with water to form a carbonium ion, the pH should be lower than neutral. The carbonium would buffer the pH so that you'd get very little rxn/time with Al if Temp is held low enough to prevent or inhibit rxn.

So..... (pulling this out of my a$$)

Newly canned beer at low temp should be indistinguishable from glass'd beer. But as temp and time increase the concentration of the the Al-R-OH should increase... giving it an "off" flavor. Or at least different flavor from beer that doesn't have aluminum hydrides floating around.

If you believe that I have some real estate you might be interested in.

i have always believed aluminum leaches off into the brew or whatever.

it may be coated to prevent it but it still may leach.

i avoid drinking anything from aluminum cans. plastic too if possible. except water and milk.
