playing a dvd issue
my laptop a sony viao, will not play The Pianist, I tried running the dvd on WMP the latest version, nothing it locks up at the scene selection, it also locks up on the DVD program my laptop came with.. Interwindvd or something like that, it will also lock up on my xbox, and not even play in my dvd player in the living room, which is also a sony, it played fine on my friends laptop but not mine or any of my dvd players, .. if i may say.. wtf... is my house a nazi house or something, wont play such a jewish dvd? they all played American History X perfectly.. i guess they support it or something but whats going on here..
i bought the DVD in texas at Fry's...i guess stuff in texas is a big waste of money

Does the DVD have a different region setting?

it has a symbol with a globe and 1 in it.. and reads " this disc is compatiable with dvd players displaying these symbols"
yet i have never seen this symbol on any dvd player i have owned.. plus i bought it in the USA so it should work on US market dvd players and the lot.. unless texas is a new country

Region 1 is the US and Canada, so it should work. Do you know what brnd the CD drive is in the Xbox? Is it Sony?

well im using my sony viao... so it must be of sony make.. the drive plays every other dvd i own

Some players read disc's better than others; more than likely the disc is bad.

good news.. my xbox played The Pianist.. i put it in on a whim just to see if it would work.. and it did... great movie.. very very well done

All in all, I have found Sony CD and DVD drives to be among the most sensitive to manufacturing defects and/or dirt, dust, etc. Sometimes cleaning the CD helps. I have had to clean brand new "virgin" CDs to get them to play in Sony drives before.
