Shipper Needed

I am a full time antique dealer [32 years] and have expanded my market by selling on Ebay. I am looking for someone to ship my furniture that is reasonable and reliable. Mainly East coast but some items do go West. I ship between 20 to 100 items a month so this would be a good account for a serious shipper.

Any leads appreciated. Thanks.

Cheers,

Bill

Me too,pal.

It's going to be very dear either way,if you hook up with a licensed freight hauler $$$$$,if you trust to an "independant"with a cube van who may be uninsured you can have problems there too.

I used to have a guy haul furniture down to the S&S in south Jersey, also sent loads down to Tom Martin in Pennsylvania, mahogany bed & dining sets were hot several years ago.

That's why I like smalls, easy to sell and ship. When I get furniture from cleanouts I peddle it locally, unless it's something like Widdicomb or Heywood Wakefield or whatever, but I have contacts for the "name"stuff.

Bill I have some not-quite antique furniture for sale... interested?

Carleton,

Yeah, you're right. Intially I used the major carriers but they were so high that the hammer prices weren't so good. Then I've dealt with 2 independant haulers. First one was totally unreliable from the git and the second one started out great then fell onto the same road as the first one. I wound up delivering a pair of chairs myself to upstate New York. Luckily they fit in the back of the TD.

Been to S&S many times and I know Martin well. Probably have bumped into you too! Would your hauler [that you used to use] still be available? My main focus is furniture and, even after so many years in the biz, I don't know smalls that well so I tend to stay away from them.

Gottadiesel....how much furniture do you have to sell? Pix maybe?

Cheers,

Bill

Let me know if you want descriptions and/or dimensions...

Edit: *ANYTHING* you can tell me about either set would be MUCH appreciated. :)

'50's & '60's "provincial",not much market,better off posting it on Craigslist.

Did you look at the dining room too? (The dark wood one?).

Yeah, '60's "fruitwood" I believe, not in the same league as a '30's or '40' mahog or walnut federal or deco set but still desireable on account of the solid wood.

Agree with Carleton.

I buy oak, mahogany, walnut, teak and even some maple. First three are of course antique but the teak and maple mainly 50's 60's stuff and must be attributed to a designer or have that high style look.

Thanks for the offer.

Cheers,

Bill

yeah, I do well with Eames and Saarinen on ebay, high end danish modern is it.

Remember when Arts and Crafts was hot? I couldn't keep it around long enough, now I've got Lifetime,Roycroft and J&G Stickley gathering dust,it sells but not like before.

Oh, the "shippers" I used 10-15 years ago? not a pretty story,1 went into rehab, another's semi-retired and the other went to Florida to work for "auction Mike"who used to buy his merch up here.

Can't find any hungry guys with vans anymore, noboby wants to work anymore,so it seems.

bill murrow 08-11-2006 10:23 AM

Mission still sells good in the right auction but the lucrative modern market is red hot.

My van shipper works hard but can be months late with the delivery and just will not communicate. With over 500 pos feedbacks I am not risking my reputation anymore because some shipper doesn't want to call the customers back.

I may just run the shop and start shipping on my own. Problem is we still have a small but getting bigger every day child who needs supervision after school.

Shipper in rehab....LOL. I guess his shipping job pushed him over the edge....

Cheers,

Bill

Stickley, gathering dust?

Wanna trade?

(Yes, I'm serious!)

He meant it is gathering dust with the price set at yesteryears price tag. Everything still sells but the prices have been "adjusted" in recent years, with the exception of the 50's/60's designer furniture and objects which have seen a tremendous boost in price as of late.

Cheers,

Bill

Oh. :(

Hehe. Didn't think that would work. ;)

GottaDiesel 08-11-2006 11:23 AM

Out of curiousity, what would you value that bedroom set and dining room set at? I'm just curious.

Thanks again,

Pete
