Don't forget Tehran, November 1979. The seizure of the US embassy was probably the West's first clash with militant Islam in it's modern form.

We have been having problems with these folks way before 9/11. Clinton sent us into Bosnia for much less or did you forget that one too?
I haven't forgotten any of those.

They were all unprovoked attacks committed by Islamic terrorist from a variety of Muslim countries. Who should we have taken vengence on? Iraq? Iran? Lebenon? Syria? Yeman? Afganistan? Palestine? Arabia? Maybe all of the above, their all involved with and guilty of promoting terrorism.

OK, care to explain what this means? Go ahead, click on the little sideways arrow thing, it'll take you right back to where it was that YOU said that.

Here's what I get out of this with my sparse knowledge of english grammer:

subject = "the president" - that would be President George Bush.

verb = to link

adverb/modifier = continues

direct object = Saddam Hussein

Indirect object = 9/11

Now I apologise for my lack of grammer skills, I may very well have incorrectly tagged some of those parts of speech. I also apologise if english is not your first language, it's a ***** of a language even if you grew up with it. The point is, that you did directly say that the president linked Hussein to 9/11. It just never happened in this particular universe of reality

Now, rather than continue this why don't you just go back and read some threads from a year or so ago. "WMDs, opinions, facts & lies" lays out many of the points of discussion and provides broad bi-partisan and international source material as to your errors. Perhaps any of the previous threads regarding Wilson, Plame and that whole debacle would be helpful too.

Of course, we could continue this but you'll no doubt become offended at some percieved slight, as you are wont to do. Your call.

I think Mike meant that there should have been more than just an isolated criminal investigation. It should have been treated as part of a concerted effort to destabilise or destroy this country - which is what it was.

While it's convenient to think that there was just a criminal investigation because Bill was knee deep in interns, so to speak, that's probably unfair. There is more to an administration than the President. Clinton's administration was woefully inadaquate in foreign policy and frankly were more interested in domestic policy. Clinton was content to do whatever, as long as his poll numbers remained high. The mistake was a failure to identify a very real movement that intended harm to this country and act accordingly. This was a mistake for the entire administration and resulted from a warped world view. Indeed, the Bush administration continued that mistake for almost a year. There was no conceivable way to ignore it once 9/11 occured.

Yes, some of the folks who tried to bomb WTC in the 90's are in jail. Some were captured under Clinton's reign and some were captured under Bush's presidency. I applaud all captures of peoples who wish us harm from whomever wishes to capture them. Unlike some I am not upset when a number 2 or number 3 person is apprehended - it's all a step to destroying the capabilities of the organization.

How about the olympics in 1972?

Absofreakinlutely. If Hilary Clinton becomes the next president and continues along on the present course I'll back her completly. Then I guess I'd be a Clinton apologist.

Despite it's location, Israel is very much a western country. Those two points help to add up much of the hatred towards it.

But the event did happen in Germany. As I remember, they were convinced of a peaceful solution, shortly before everyone was shot.

I would be less inclined to include that terrorist attack in the list, because I think the circumstances are a little different. It was more in protest against Israel's possession of the occupied territories as opposed to a clash of civilzations.

Consider the following scenario: the government of Israel came to work tomorrow morning and decides to give in to every demand of the Palestinians. They give back all the occupied territories, pull back all the settlers, tear down the wall, give up any claim to Jerusalem, and everything else. This should feasably end all Palestinian terrorist actions against Israel. I'm not saying it would, but it should. But it would in no way put an end to Militant Islam. The two movements may have some overlap when it comes to goals, but Palestinian terrorists have a clearer and more achievable agenda.

Good Botnst, when I step on a piece of glass, I don't hate myself over it. I think, oh dear, I best avoid that in that in the future. It's an old concept, seeing one's mistakes, admitting them, and learning from them.

Good point. The arab league has always managed to screw the Palestinians quite effectivly. Take the latest Hezbollah instigated war for example. that one screwed Palestine, Israel, the US and Lebanon.

There can be little denying that terrorists of Zarqawi or OBL's stripes are to be arrested, prevented, eliminated -- you name it.

Why can't we understand that the kind of bombs that we dropped in Shocking and Awful and that Israel dropped wholesale on Lebanon have an effect on the people below similar to what we felt on 9/11?

What kind of agenda do you think that they think we have?

Yea, if you hadn't so evilly put that piece of glass there so that your neighbor would stab his foot on it and then you could have messed around with his wife while he was hopping in pain then you wouldn't have stepped on it either.

YOU SHALL REAP AS YOU SOW!!!!!!

Besides, I mean, when corporate America makes that glass they know what's going to happen. It's really thier fault.

You don't have to use the word "war"... You can call it whatever you want...

But RADICAL MUSLIMS intend to bring death to YOUR doorstep.

At least George W., even with his many, many, many shortcomings and screw-ups, can see it for what it really is, and is trying to do something about it.
Yeah, but...

Uno mas, western incursions into Arab/Muslim lands in the last 100 years with an eye to explotation far surpass the vicey versa. We have had a big part in making this bed. Trying to pin it all on a bunch of hot-headed Islamo-whackos is not accurate, and will not help with a solution.
