Electric cars

i cant rember if it is here or somewhere else about the discussion of the EV-I the electric car made by gm that was taken from the leasers and sent to the crusher for reasons unknown..owning an electric car to me would be a great idea.. i drive only.. 30 miles a day.. the average a US citizen drives.. and the charge would last for a week.. and most certainly with lithium ion batterys the range can be extened to at least 200-250 miles

someone gave me this link
http://www.sonyclassics.com/whokilledtheelectriccar/electric.html

im soo seeing that movie when it comes to someplace closer or when its on dvd..

this seems like a better project than the jet engine one i had in mind.. hmm -goes researching-

I gave one of those

I gave one of those to my daughter for Christmas a few years ago. You operated it via a little remote control. She loved it!

Electric cars are not zero emissions vehicles. They are emissions shifting vehicles.

When you plug them in, that power has to be generated somewhere. Unless it's from solar panels or wind powered generators, they are just emitting the emissions in another part of town. Coal, nuclear, hydro, natural gas, and many other power sources. They all emit harmful emissions.

Yes, all those crazy emissions from the nuclear power stations and hydroelectric dams. Maybe it's better that the nasty byproducts produced when harnessing energy are stuck to centralized locations, where it is easier to control and contain them. Seems a tad better than tons of little oil burning powerplants all over the place.

Of course, I'm going to get right back into my w126 and pollute some more.

OK, lets store all the radioactive waste in your garage. Or, we can pour a few million tons of concrete in your local river and flood your town.

Living in CO, I frequently see news about the federal/state/local governments battling each other about where to store this stuff. Everybody has it and nobody wants it.

Hydroelectric dams are not free from guilt. Insted of emissions into the atmosphere, they just flood the local environment and dump construction waste into the river.

Wind powered generators are not efficient. They need huge acreage compared to what a coal plant needs to make the same. The wind is not always on. They need backup systems (A coal/natural gas plant) to supply power during the frequent down times. Wal-Mart Opens 2nd Experimental Supercenter. The 80' windmill the Aurora wal-mart uses only supplies about 0.5% of what the store needs every day. The main reason the made an 80' windmill is because the city would not let them put up a huge sign.

You would be better off with a gas generator as a back up... that way you could park it indoors and run it while driving to extend your range.

This would be the perfect chance to elaborate. How fast/far does it go how many batterys...?

Electrics are often seen as golf carts by the public but the dragster guys will tell you they are capable of quite good performance... (given some proper batteries) the engines are very low maintanence... motor braking and 4wd are naturaly superior systems in them but the batterys tend to suck.
