Weren't those things from the late 1980's, hybridization of Rover and Honda, made in the UK, called the called the 850 and a big flop in the USA?

They were rather expensive too, but not very reliable either. I doubt if there are even a dozen still remaining in the United States today.

All I remember is being trapped in the back seat of one at the auto show because the child locks were set. Somebody had to let me out.

They were pretty decent cars that had a lot of luxury but suffered from the build issues which I myself am sure is what killed Rover in the end.

The car was built on the same platform as the Honda Legend.
In the early 90's they had a Vettesse model of the 800 series that produced 200hp from a 2 litre powerplant (rover engine). It was commonly used by the British Constabulary as a chase car.

Of course the 2.7 litre v6 model was right from the Honda Legend.

The coupe was also a very good looking car.





Of course the problem with British cars is that they were built like American cars and priced like german cars.

Actually, I thought the early Sterling shared more with the Toyota Cressida than the Legend. But that was based on what I remember from the exterior styling cues.
