Timing Chain Crimper is MIA
Though I have posted this in the "Tool Rental" section of our forum, I hope no one minds me double posting . . . (moderators take whatever action you must).
Any forum members live near Bolingbrook, Illinois? If so, please let me know if you would be willing to help me retrieve my crimper. E-mail me at snellings@adelphia.net if you can help. After over a year of traveling the country from forum member to member, I guess I finally found a bad apple. Now it is time to recover. Thanks, Steven Snelling |

Let me know if you would be interested in getting involved. This fellow has simply decided to keep my tool. Thanks, Steven Snelling 68 Unity Stage Rd Charlestown, NH 03603 603-826-5975 (home) 603-835-7979 (work) |
Do you have a phone number?

How about email, lets shame the fag.

Why would a person who knows you know where he lives, and you have his work and home telephone numbers steal a tool? Doesn't make sense to me.

The phone numbers listed above in this thread are mine. Thanks, Steve |

Crimper Still MIA - Would Like Some Help
Quote:
Thanks, Steve |
Brier I hope you get your tool back. Its annoying when you try to offer a service to help forum members but you get screwed by one.
Time to get it back "repo man" style. |
Sorry, I forgot to update. I went by there last weekend and no one answered the door when I knocked. I don't have time this weekend, but I'll drop by again next weekend.
|
Steve whats his screen name? If he doesn't return the tool his account is gone.
I guess unfortunitly something like this was bound to happen. That crimper was quite usefull, I used it over the winter and it worked great! |

Thanks, Steve |
E66 is an account. If you don't get resolution please tell me.

No risk to anyone... I suggest we take a collection to buy you another through "Phil at fastlane. :) Ban the skunk who took your tool, and ask the webmaster to block his IP address. :) |
Anyone up for a GTG in Illinois? Campout on Highridge Pkway, bring well stocked ice chests, we'll order takeout and feed the neighbors, stealth recruitment. Any other tools you want? We may strip a car for parts while we're there too. I haven't seen the lay of the land, maybe a skeet shooting contest?

Plain fact is the guy turned out to be a larcenous-hearted A-hole.
You'll like as not have to write it off and chalk it up to experience. Sensible suggestion above,we {all high mileage diesel owners who do their own wrenching}chip in say $10.00-$20.00 bucks each since the tools seem to fetch $175-$185{with or without adaptors??} and get the guy a new one, realistically I'm only going to replace one, definitely on the 617,perhaps on the 606 in a few years so I'll probably need it once. I'll start the ball rolling, lemme know if and when and I'll post off my contribution. |

Carleton and Gang
Carleton, I just read your last post and sincerely want to thank you for the thought/offer. If I am not successful via the generosity of our fellow member making the trip over or via the USPS service, I will simply purchase another crimper. In the time I have owned it, it has already been paid for through this forum's tool rental program.
A lesson learned is also very factual. Larry Bible and others had suggested/used PayPal or other means of charging the value until it is returned. I didn't follow their advice and that means the blame rests squarely on my shoulders. Secondly, someone else had suggested watching how many posts the person had in order to minimize the risk of theft happening. Once again, I didn't follow that suggestion and this fellow, with only 2 or 3 posts, decided he wanted to keep the crimper. If I get it back or purchase another I'll put it back in the tool rental program and just make certain it only goes to members that are solidly active. When I am done with my coil spring compressor I will be doing the same. I believe Brian Carlton did the membership a huge favor getting the rental/loaner program off the ground and I do not want to see this incident discourage others from continuing. As I said above, I have been paid back for the tool however I wish I had had a chance to use it once before it was stolen. ;) As always, thank you. Steve |

let me just add a bit of my Grandpa's advice, which, the older I get,the more I see the wisdom of his experience. He would say,If someone offers you something,no matter how trifling or expensive, always show your respect for them by accepting it,since it means so much more to the giver than the receiver. |
Maybe a pm to Phaedrus? He is a higher up at a MB dealer in Chi-Town. Maybe he has met the guy? You better put in a watch on ebay for that thing. I wish I was in Chicago--this type of thing is sort of a specialty of mine:pirate:

Drove by again early this morning; no one answers the door.
|
Anyone ever think of shaming the A-hole by describing his exploit in the nearest Craigslist??
|
I know I'm a forum newbie, but this sort of thing pisses me off. I'm just glad Steve is still willing to participate in the rental program. (But I would've asked for the deposit Steve.)
So anyway... what's the latest? What is USPS saying? If I'm not mistaken, mail fraud is a felony and you can actually call the FBI on the guy. That ought to make him "pack his shorts". |

I just banned "E66" since it seems you did not get satisfaction. If their is anything I can do please contact me.
Its was a dead screen name, but what the heck. |

Like you, I hope not and certainly don't think Hatterasguy would do that.
Scammer Hater, I have also sent you an e-mail. I truly appreciate you taking the time to get involved in helping to, hopefully, recover my crimper. If you are successful, and have the need to use it, please do so. I will give you a call at the number your e-mailed me. Forum Members, It is great that Scammer Hater has joined the ranks of the majority of the membership in helping. As most of you can imagine, I had all but given up on the hope of seeing the crimper again. All may not be lost. I want to say a very hearty thank-you to Scammer Hater for taking the time to help. Best regards, Steve Snelling a/k/a BrierS |

Great News!!!
No, my caps lock wasn't stuck! I was shouting (above).
A very hearty thank-you to "Scammer Hater" for locating and procuring my timing chain crimper. As with other forum members, the dedication and caring that goes out to fellow members has paid off. He has contacted me, requested my address and is shipping the crimper to me. Though I have no idea if all of the parts will be there (single/double row) or not, at least we should be back in the loaner business (from my end). I want to thank everyone that has offered the support and help over the time I have been a forum member. This is the type of thing that will get me back in the spirit of working and enjoying my somewhat neglected two Mercedes. One happy camper, Steve |
So come on! What's the story????

Way to go Scammer Hater!!
Steve, I'm glad you got your tool back from that a-hole. danny |

The loss of the deposit is a powerful incentive to return it.........complete and undamaged. The spring compressor has been out and back at least 30 times now. No issues. |
Resolution! So, what's the story? We want all the salacious details!

Way to go scammerhater. You are the superhero of MS.:D Nothing better than a bit of retribution and a happy ending. briers, are you going to the NEGTG on June 9th? Maybe the event could be called the 1st Annual Scammer Hater NEGTG celebrating the return of the missing timing chain crimper.:D |
Is it in yer hands yet?
|
Nice score! Good job Scammer Hater!
In the future ask for a deposit equal to the replacment value of the tool. That seems to work. |
Crimper Has Landed
Thanks to our forum and a special thanks to Scammer Hater, the crimping tool is back home. It appears to be in great condition. I truly know details about how it was found except Scammer Hater knows the shop were the fellow that was keeping it took his car. The shop was willing to release it to Scammer Hater and it was sent to me. I need to check with UPS to see what the shipping would have been since Scammer Hater asked me for NOTHING. I have to do something to show my appreciation . . .
I am going to put it back in circulation. For any of the regular posters, plus of course Scammer Hater, no deposit would be required. It just wouldn't be worth it. Newer forum members, unless they have someone vouching for them (regular member) I will add a deposit. Very new members . . . we'll see. Thanks again to all for the support, advise and help. As to the upcoming get-together, I'll have to pass. After the crimper went MIA I foolishly lost some enthusiasm. I will need to get back to work on both cars. The 300TD will most likely be put on the market though I'm certain I'll miss the power. The 300D Turbo will have to become my ride to the events. Steve |
