I'm so lucky to live in Denver. We have NORAD and the Air Force Academy a short drive to the south.

My Snap-On Dealer was trained in atomic weapons in the military. From what he has told me, modern H-Bombs can leave a 100mile radius black spot. That's not counting the shockwave, radiation, or fallout. That's the immediate incinerated area of the inital blast.

Think about it, one H-bomb and an area the size of Colorado is dead within seconds.

Scary stuff...

Yeah, but not so bad when you think of it in terms of N. Korea, Iran, France. . . Oh, wait, they're on our side. . . . aren't they?

All that would survive is cockroaches and Mercedes W123 Diesels

I wouldn't like to see that though, cockroaches driving W123 diesels.

Unless we are willing to use it, it is a 57 MT fireworks display.

I used to work on things that involved many thousands of pounds of high explosives and had a co-worker who didn't think that was much, he used to set off H-bombs in the south Pacific.

France, their not on our side. All the headlines about the brokered resolutuion outlined by the French and the US over Lebenon, and they offer to send 200 peacekeepers as their contribution to the UN deployment. How discracefull. All talk and no balls, that's France.

Anyone actualy read the specs on this thing? Firstly its Russian, largest bomb we ever had was 27mt or so. I don't think we have anything that large anymore.

Secondly this thing was breaking windows 1,000 miles away! This thing made all other nuclear weapons look like M80's!

The fireball touched the ground, reached nearly as high as the altitude of the release plane, and was seen 1,000 km away. The heat could have caused third degree burns at a distance of 100 km. The subsequent mushroom cloud was about 60 km high and 30–40 km wide. The explosion could be seen and felt in Finland, even breaking windows there.[citation needed] Atmospheric focusing caused blast damage up to 1,000 km away. The seismic shock created by the detonation was measurable even on its third passage around the earth.

I saw a tv programme that featured this bomb. Called 'Top 10 World Explosions' or something. Also had the Halifax Harbour explosion in Canada.

With this bomb, the russian pilots who dropped it were told they may not be able to get out of the blast zone in time. So basically, they had to drop the bomb, hit the afterburners and pray! They did make it, but barely.

The part that got me was that the shockwave could still be detected after its third pass around the earth.
