Do you have a dog?

So who has a dog ? I have 3 Min Pins, all rescued (two of which when I volunteered for a breed rescue). This week I'm taking care of three more as a friend is sick and hence I'm looking after hers.

I managed to get 5 of them in one picture. I thought It was going to be a living nightmare but they have been surprisingly well behaved dogs.

I have a miniature schnauzer/cocker spaniel mix. I've had him since he was about six months old and he's an old doggie now. He's blind, and i feel so sorry for him. He's gotten really overweight over the years so he has a hard time getting around sometimes, but I know he still is enjoying life ( at least he seems like he does). He still greets me at the door when i come home and he gives me kisses and his tail still wags. I know his time is coming up soon though and i hate that...

Vizsla

We just got a Vizsa puppy (or as I call him, a poopie!) They are bird dogs with a great disposition and are wonderful family dogs. They are cousins to Weimaraners and German Short Hairs. Their coat is short and the color is rust like a Dachsund. The males top out at about 55Lbs. so they are medium sized. They are called velcro dogs because they always want to be with their owners. They are real smart and train well. We have had the puppy for one week and he is already potty and crate trained and is sitting and coming on command! They are also sensitive dogs and can't stand lots of being yelled at and they will cower if hit. Hitting is not the way to train most dogs anyway.

Hey, I even have a European dog!

Having had cats my whole live, I consider myself a "cat person" and always wrote off dogs. We are on our second dog, both of which were Vizslas. The first was a rescue and bolted out into the street a couple of months back and was run over by some a--hole who never even stopped, and our new guy who is now 9 weeks old. It is amazing how I have become a dog person too. It doesn't matter what is happening, they are always happy to see you and are content to just be by your side. I thought I had unconditional love from my kids, but with the dog there are no conditions, it is always that unbridled "I love you no matter what" that has really changed me.

My guess is that your dog is still enjoying life because he still has you - and you are the best human on earth to him. It was such a shock to have to bury our first Vizsla after his life was cut so short after our relationship had become so strong in only 90 days, so I know that you treasure your dog even more in his senior years.

Rottie/Bloodhound mix

This is my baby, Samantha. She is a Rottie/Bloodhound mix that is about 16 months old. This pic is actually about 2 months old. She now weighs 98 pounds. She doesn't know that she is a dog, she has met other dogs and she hides from them She doesn't get out much, poor helpless thing...lol Don't know what I would do without her, spoiled rotten she is, needless to say.

I adopted a Walker Hound from animal care and control about 3 months back. She is about 1yr 6 months old, and around 40lbs. Typical walker hounds are about 50-70lbs, so she's a little small for the breed, may even be a mut but she doesn't look like it. Really good dog, already have her 98% housetrained, knows sit, stay, lay down, shake, rollover, out, in and a whole skew of other commands. Really sweet dog, needs some work with separation anxiety but then again i would too if i was stuck in a pound for 3 months like she was. As i type this she is sitting on my bed wondering what i'm doing.

Two Jack Russell Terriers, Sally 11 and Corky 6.

They just got back from the groomers about an hour ago and are now napping after their ordeal.

They are both females. Russells can go into a frenzy under the wrong circumstances and really tear each other up. 99% of the time docile.
It's the 1% that is a problem. More than a few bucks spent at the vet to repair the older dog that always loses the fight.

Yes that's right, the longer you have them the more you love them. He's the first dog that I have had an as adult, a dog all my own. I know he's going to break my heart.

Mutts have their advantage. They are less predictable when it comes to genetic diseases. Of course, me liking to know what to look out for, I prefer to stick to pure breeds. I had a Shar Pei die on me before when I didn't know that Amylyodosis (sp) was a big time killer. Now I get a breed and reserch the breed for certain problems and keep an eye out. My Pit Bull had his urine tested every couple of years for kidney issues. My Shar Pei had hers tested every year for kidney problems. On top of me watching their urine, that is.

Seeing as how much I value loyalty, I tend to be more comfortable with my dogs, than a person when it comes to a trust situation. My dogs haven't schemed against me for money whereas I can't say that about people
