Having trouble with location of VIN number on my 1984 280 SL Euro model.
Yes,there are some labels with match,but I am looking for real shassi (engraved) number.I've check some other SL's,they do have VIN on the front near where the hood lock is,but my have nothing there.Please help.

Chassis VIN should be stamped into the firewall under the hood. Then there's the data plate inside the driver's door sill.

Thank you for your cooperation.Unfortunately no VIN found on firewall stamped,unless its down below near the motor(its covered with some pad which is glued.)Can someone be more specific and tell of more possible locations of stamped vin on SL 280 1984.

I have a 1984 300SD, and I have some confusion over the VIN. The Data plate on the drivers door jamb, and the metal plate on drivers side of the windshield have the same VIN. The # stamped into the firwall, does not match the others. Is that normal, or what?

I wouldn't think that this is normal at all. You can buy the rosette rivets for the windshield VIN plate. Perhaps someone did. Proceed with caution.
