used my awd on the magnum today

I was driving back to Lafayette on I 65 and there was an accident ahead. Traffic was stopping. At that moment I noticed we were on the inside of a cloverleaf that had a kindof graveled parking area inside of it. So (with permission from Mrs. W) I just turned right and drove off through the rough grass into the parking area and onto the intersecting state highway.

I wouldnt have done this in any 2wd car.

So how many tickets could I have gotten?

I didnt go the wrong way on anything and I didnt drive in the median, it was kindof on the berm.

I am sure it must be against the law to avoid being stuck in a big traffic jam.

I suspect the boys in blue had bigger issues than you cutting a u-turn through a median. I have never done it, largely because my luck is such that the one time I do, I'll get zapped with several tickets. Kinda like, I have never picked up a hitchiker, sure as ****, the one time I do, it'll be an axe murderer.

Don't wait in those traffic jams.

Get your vehicle onto the shoulder and back up 1/2 mile (at 30 mph or faster) to the previous exit and then take the exit ramp..........follow all the $hitboxes..........laws are meant for other people...........

no, read again.

it was not a u turn thru the median.

i drove off the right side and down inside a cloverleaf. no traffic there. a deserted country two lane state highway and into a parking area and then onto the two lane from the driveway of the parking area.

though i have done u turns on the highway after being in creeping traffic for a couple of hours. and less.

Not to be a wet blanket but you should see some of the dirt roads the SDL goes down in the spring in an attempt to fish various rivers in upstate CT. But it sure looks out of place around all those pick up trucks!

Traffic has become so gawdawful around here that creeping along at 5 MPH, watching the temp needle creep upward has become an all-too-common thing in my life. Shame on me, but if there's a wreck causing the problem, at least there's a payoff when I get to drive by all the pretty flashing lights and crumpled sheetmetal, but if it's construction and there's no "payoff" I get irritated. The only issue I would have with ducking off to the right is that the tow trucks and police tend to come zipping up the right shoulder trying to get to the scene and I'd hate to hit one of them.

Gotta be careful with doing u-turns in the median too. That short grass can turn into a swamp real quick. Most recent memory is on I-4, I was headed eastbound from Clearwater to Orlando... there was a fatal wreck and traffic was crawling - maybe averaging 3-4 mph. Anyway since it was nice out and I had nothing to do I decided to ride out the wait, but in that stretch of about 2 miles of interstate, I witnessed a Navigator sink up to its running boards, a FHP get stuck, and some guy in a 2WD truck bury his back tires to the axle. I felt bad for the guy in the Nav and the truck, but I couldn't help but laugh at the FHP guy.

i never came to a stop, just got over on the shoulder, surveyed my escape route and turned right and crawled down the hill immediately. i am surprised my wife agreed to it.
