How my week has went...strange

OK, I have three Mercs. I do not tend to talk about them with people unless they ask, because I do not want to create any possibility of people thinking that I am trying to convey that I am ‘one up on them’, yet here is what has happened to me in the last four days:
1. Monday I went to school in Margaret to pick my son from practice. The mother of a teammate approached me and asked me about my car. She told me that she has a son who just graduated from college and is on his way home from the west coast. She said that he just bought a 1987 300D and he is looking for someone to help know how to work on it. Her son called me and we are getting together this Saturday.

2. Wednesday evening a woman from church approached me and asked me if I would look at her W107 1979 350SL. She said that it has been in storage for years and is having problems getting it running. I did not even know that she had the car!

3. Twenty minutes later a friend of mine from church approached me and asked for advice on finding a W210 E300.

4. Today, a neighbor asked me to help them locate a W123 diesel for her son to drive and a convertible for her to drive. I think she wants something along the lines of an SL.

My word! This can become a lot of time. Maybe I should charge a consulting fee. Perhaps I should open a preowned Merc lot………..I have three to start with. Ya, that would make my wife real happy.

It's nice to help out and do people a favor, but be carefull. There all looking for older cars and none of them sound like they know didley about what their getting into. Old Mercedes are great cars, but try to inform them about the required maintenance, frequent repair work, and the high expense to keep them that way, especially if there not experienced DIY'ers.

Ps....Maybe you can get a deal on that Older not running SL to add to your collection .

I take it as Divine guidance NOT to sell your 210,especially the specific mention of an E300 under such Holy auspices......you don't need to be knocked upside the head with a bag of hammers to draw the correct inference,do you?

#3 is a very mechanically inclined male. He has been interested in going diesel for some time. A big part of the picture for him at this time is money since his wife left him and the children for another man last year.

I don't know that my wife would consider my W123's as 'chick magnets'; however driving Margaret casts a grin on my face. I know it is not me because the back end of a Mack truck on a rainy day is better looking than me.

nc--I know very little about cars , but have helped three folks find W210 diesels in the past six months. Word got around about me burning SVO during Katrina

btw, is your E300 really just a "D" or is it a turbo? I didn't know they made a non-turbo past '96.

For your reference
1996 - 606 non-turbo, 4-speed trans.
1997 - 606 non-turbo, electronic 5-speed trans.
1998 - 606 turbo, electronic 5-speed trans.
1999 - 606 turbo, electronic 5-speed trans.

I try not to get involved unless its for a good friend. If you say yes than everyone wants a piece, I'm a real estate agent not a mechanic.

However I am always around if one of my MB owning friends wants a hand, nothing like talking MB's over a few beers and turning some wrench's!

Yesterday the first person that I mentioned in my starting post stopped by. He has a pretty nice 1987 W124 300D. It was my first time being around any W124. As I suggested to him he has registered here as W12487300D and posted as few picutes in the gallery. He had some questions more specific to W124's that I was not able to answer so he will probably be starting some threads in the near future.

If every one that I listed in the post buys a Merc all of us could get together and start a local Merc club. I find it funny because this area that I live in is so strong on 'BIG THREE' and a bit anti-import.

Don't worry ML's are made in Alabama, more American than all the Ford trucks they make in Canada or Mexico.

I find it ironic that most of the imports are not imports anymore. One of the guys that I new back in highschool was a big buy American car guy. He bought a Ford, found out it was made in Mexico. Stopped making fun of my other friends Toyota real fast. Toyota was made in Kentucky.
